Paint chip repair prior to bra

Any input on options with regard to paint/stone/rock chip repair (rather than a repaint) prior to installing a PPF?

I understand that if it's a repaint, the paint will need to cure for 30 days prior to PPF install. Does it also apply to chip repairs (such as drcolorchip etc)?

Or just grin and bear it and ignore existing chips and place PPF on it to avoid further damage?

I have successfully repaired chips a day or so prior to clear film application. It's best to do so as the clear bra will suck down in the 'hole' of the chip and be a noticeable dimple.

How did you repair the chips? Drcolorchip or Langka or another?

I used OEM touch up applied with several layers using a 000 size art brush. (Get at art supply or hobby shop) I work best that way. I have used DrColor Chip and Lanka as well and they work fine, too. But to me, being meticulous with a small quality brush is the best bet.

Thanks for the advise!

How long did you have to wait before you placed the film over the touch up?

Give it 24 hours after the last layer of paint. And some hours in the sun is always good. Good luck!

When we do PPF installs, part of our service includes touching up chips. You can lay the film down within hours of the touch up repair. Get it done first, then apply the film. If it's really bad, like peppering or lots of chips, depending on what you're spending on the film and the type of film, you may be better off repainting, then wrapping. Hope this helps
