I'm not sure how similar the 996 paint is to 997,993 etc but the 996 paint loves the optimum polish, I wasnt quite sure about it because my paint was in great shape when I bought it and I found it really hard to locate blemishes when I was detailing my car. Well tried it on my buddies car (jenk12m) and he had a LOT of (but not deep) swirling. The optimum polish with only a gray pad with Rotary on lowest speed took them right out, I didnt do the whole car as I was teaching him how to use the DA polisher which worked too but not as well and not as fast as the Rotary. Should have taken some before and after pics but I had to go.

I'm glad detailing my turbo is fairly easy because I have a corvette that beats any polish that touches it to the ground.
