355 or GranSport?
355 or GranSport?
Hey Guys...
Hoping you can help me out...
Im getting ready to make a new purchase for the summer, and I've narrowed it down to the Ferrari 355 or the Maserati Gransport.
Both are roughly the same price... but totally different cars.
My real hang up is the Cambiocorsa gearbox in the Maserati. I've heard the clutch and F1 pump have been known to have problems and cost a good amount to replace.
The Maserati is obviously much newer, an 05 as compared to a 98, and has the Cambiocorsa gearbox as compared to the 355s 6spd.
Both cars are freshly serviced and have roughly 15k miles on them, both for about the same price. The Ferrari is a Spyder, the GranSport a coupe.
Im thinking the 355 would hold its value much better, but there isnt enough info on the Maserati out there to really find out.
Im really stuck here guys, any advice you might have would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Petey

Both cars have there pros and cons and from the top of my head it can be an easy decision if you dont mind the servicing.
To break it down to you both the 355 and the Maserati cost alot to maintain since the maserati has a 90 degree Ferrari V8 derived from the Modena if memory serves me rite. The 355 is a very nice car and its becoming what the Porsche 993 is to Porsche fanatics, one of the best looking and sounding Porsche ever. The same thing applies to Ferrari, the F355 is going to go down as one of the most beautiful Ferrari's to be ever produced and not one new Ferrari attracted my attention like a 355 does and especially if it has the must haves such as Challenge Grille and Tubi exhaust. Try listing to a F430 with exhaust and compare it to the 355 with Tubi's, the 355 sounds the authentic ferrari sound track that you hear whailing in the streets of monaco a sound that really has its value in the cars price.
If I were in your shoes I'd look at the 355 because its stable in pricing rather than depreciating substantialy were the Grasport continue depreciate substantially year after year.

I would not approach either vehicle on a "value hold" concept. Makes no sense in today's market.
The two cars are quite different. It's a decision you will have to make.
The 355 is more exciting, more involving, better looking, and more fun, and being a 6 speed you'll have none of the dreaded F1/DuoSelect problems.
The 355 will require a slight bit more regular service but will require a few big $'s at service time as it's engine has to come out for belt services, etc.
98 is a good year for the 355 as the very expensive valve, header, and cat issues were all resolved by then.
I can tell you that no cars make the wonderful Ferrari sound!
If you driving record is ok the cars should be about equal in insurance costs. If not, you'll pay a premium for the Ferrari.
Tough choice but a fun one to make.
