Are there cars out there which are substantially better than the 911?

Quote: I can imagine that your 911 must be a heck of a car with those mods. Thanks for the input on Ferraris.
My turbo is nothing compared to most of the guys here. I'm probably around 525 hp with the tune and catless 70mm ep2 loud exhaust and happy where I am. Bigger turbos would boost hp to 600+, but at the expense of turbo lag, and more importantly, potential damage to my $17,000 tiptronic gearbox which I have no intention of replacing due to power overload. As it is, around downtown Columbus, it's pretty damn hard to stay on the loud pedal for more than a few seconds without slamming into someone else or paying more attention for cops than where you are going. See here (0-150 in just a few short breaths, on a track of course ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tv2G4hiaTio

Sounds good too, very raspy with clear sounds of the turbos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzXbBRxca-A (but I still think Ferrari's sound MUCH better).

Anyway, P cars are great value, which is why it was my first exotic, but Ferrari's are on another level IMO.

Driven both. Ferrari is a different league. 911s are great, reliable, and fun to drive, but they don't come close to the Ferrari experience.

Having driven a few Ferrari's ( Barchetta, 360, 430 etc) I agree that the Ferrari has something special in the looks and sounds department. I checked them out again a few months ago and ended up buying a 996 Turbo with a Mezger engine. This car has the best reliability, performance and reasonable maintenance / cost per mile in one package. I would HATE to drive a fancy car that lets me down and needs to be hauled away on a transporter...again... Nope. that would just kill the excitement for me... and I do like those 2 small seats in the back.

Asking if 911 is better than a ferrari is too broad...there are many variants of a 911...i think the GT line up they have (gt3,gt3rs,4.0gt3rs) can be argued as an overall more enjoyable drivers car...now if ur interested in how many double takes, camera flashes, drawing attention e.t.c, thats a different angle...maybe buy a phantom??

many european road test editors prefer the GT series of Porsches as strict drivers cars. It's a very analogue experience that rewards and flatters skilled drivers more. A lot of it has to do with THAT steering, which no Ferrari has (in terms of feel). However, most people don't just look for cars that deliver interaction. The Ferrari looks more exotic, draws more attention and it generally more of an event to be in and around. So they should be, with that price tag. They're also more highly strung, and if you're tracking, a GT series Porsche will prove to be very reliable. For me, personally, I don't like the whole Ferrari image at all...not that I don't respect the cars or get excited when I see one, but it seems a bit shallow to me. I prescribe more to the Mclaren/Porsche ethos....substance over style. But hey, style is important to a lot of people, otherwise Aston Martin wouldn't be in business.

This is perhaps the reason that 911 is the most succesfull sportscar in history. The absolute combination of pure sport feeling along with luxury and daily drive ability. It has even receptors for roof bars...

The only Porsche that is close to Ferrari experience are the GT3 variants. I owned 996tt , 2011 Gt3 and now a F430. GT3 is one hell of a car but the F430 is more special in many ways. I hate to say this 996 tt got to be the most boring Porsche (In spite of exhaust , 700 Hp mods).
