F 1 transmission and how to use it

I am getting ready to buy a 2008 F430 Spyder

I normally would get a 6 speed but they are very rare and the dealer told me the clutch does not last as long as the one in the F1 transmission.

So I test drove the F1 and had difficulty getting a smooth shift. The salesman told me I have to let off on the gas when up shifting and down shifting just like a stick. Is that true? It was just weird driving it. I have an Audi S4 with the steptronic which is much smoother when shifting but it will not hold gear after a minute it goes into auto mode which I hate but it is smooth.

I like that the F1 will hold gear but how do you drive it smoothly. When I did let up on the gas it was better but still not there. The salesman also told me when accelerating hard just keep your foot on the gas and do not let up. So what is the best way to shift an F1. I just want to make sure this is normal before I buy it.

Thanks

Arnie

It is a single cluch set-up. It will never truly be "smooth", especially on the upshifts.

yeah it's pretty normal. I have an F1. I didn't have a learning curve because I had an SMG in my M3. I like the F1 a lot on the Ferrari.. makes for great sounds on downshifts too.

I have a manual on my 911 to keep me practiced tho hehe

You'll get good with it after a few days.. and really love it.. Good luck!

henryr is infamous around these partshenryr is infamous around these parts
dealer is full of ****..... no way the f1 clutch lasts as long as the manual (on avg)

believe the manual states to maintain steady gas. you'll get used to it.

the only downside is in those "grey" areas where in a true manual i would skip gears or coast in ntrl and then go back into gear.
