F40 totalled in Germany
Maybe... Maybe not. Maybe he's owned it for 20 years, and just now decided to take it out for a spin, didn't know how to drive it, and crashed .2 miles from the end of his driveway. I'll assume that.
Maybe this guy didn't know this?
At 80, I hope to not appear in pictures all over the world about how I can't drive at the age of 80.
+1. I'm not surprised when I see a kid <20, or a person >70 crashing a car. I assume neither are the insurance companies. Why is that?

Insurance
Yup, very rare and expensive now days.
The Ferrari F40 is a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive, two-door coupé sports car produced by Ferrari from 1987 to 1992 as the successor to the Ferrari 288 GTO. From 1987 to 1989 it was Ferrari's fastest, most powerful, and most expensive car. The car had no traction control, and was one of the few to utilize turbochargers.
The car debuted with a factory suggested retail price of approximately US$400,000, although some buyers were reported to have paid as much as US$1.6 million. A total of 1,315 F40s were produced.

I wonder how much his insurance pays him?

There are a couple that I know of for sale right now, but they are nowhere near $400K on the ask. If he gets replacement cost, he's looking at near double that number.
I've seen a couple for sale asking 600k obo. I bet if you had 500k cash you could get into one. f50s seem to be going for closer to 1M, but there were only 349 of them originally made. I bet there's still at least 1000 f40s out there.
