Help on decidiing if ferrari is the sports car for me.

I am purschasing a car in two years time and dont know if the 430 spyder is the car for me. Can I buy one in two years at MSRP or a discounted one used?

I will be using it for a second car(weekend cruiser) but still wanted to put at least 5000-7000 km on it per year.

Is it better to buy a used one with about 5K on it or a brand new one?

with the amount of driving i plan to put on the car how much deprecition will i see every year?

I plan to keep teh car for about 5-6 years at least.

I make about 25K a month salary is this to low a income for a car of this nature?

Before posting this I wanted to take a look at your age, 24? If this is correct I would hold off on the Ferrari for a couple years at least IMO.

Now if you have a decent amount invested already, a house, and have a very stable job.... I guess you could consider it?

Having recently sold a 2001 Porsche 96TT that I bought new and modded up to an EVO 640GT with Pss9s and Europipe exhaust...I just bought a new F430. My point is that buying these sort of cars at such a young age you are either well established at a young age or you are rushing into life’s rewards. In either case a Ferrari is a superior car to the Porsche and the F430 finally did for me. It took Ferrari to another level and the quality Ferrari controls in Marenello and as good as any Porsche and the refinement of the car shows the hand built process. And this is coming from someone that worshipped his 996TT. One of the great sports cars ever made.

I agree...have you financials and real investments in order or the car will never be fully appreciated and deserved. My $.02

Turning 25 in March :P

Thanks for the feedback what you guys said is so true...

I guess I'm not really ready for the F430, proboly would be constantly in a state of shock that i would be in the cockpit of something so special.

I have a business and am planning two more busineses in the next two years. Only when thats settled and looking good then I am considering a car. Although I'm fairly pretty young and I should be saving cause Its better to be safe then sorry but at what point do I spend some of my money that i worked so hard for?

I was planning for the GT3 but I'm not sure about that any more cause if I wanted a daily driver porsche it would need 4 seats. And the Turbo which I think would be so much fun is quite ugly in my opinion although i havent seen it in person yet. The ferrari and lambo are just dream cars that I really don;t think I'd have the ***** to pull the trigger just yet. But I was just trying to test the waters and see if financially i could do it without hurting my investment money too much.

I think about cars waaaay more then i think about girls...its scary.

if you have the means, buy new at either msrp or slightly higher since you are not getting it for another 2 yrs. you'll have a warranty and a new car. drive it for a few years and you should still be able to get good trade-in on your next car. since you are 24, i doubt dealer will take your order though esp this is your first f car. however, if you can get new near msrp, def do so.

if you want used, you can search for a good example about a few months before you are ready to buy.

You're in Canada, right? answer: yes, you can get one all day long at list.

I will be using it for a second car(weekend cruiser) but still wanted to put at least 5000-7000 km on it per year.

buy new if you can afford it.

with the amount of driving i plan to put on the car how much deprecition will i see every year?

At least 20k per year.

I plan to keep teh car for about 5-6 years at least.

It cost me about $50k (plus taxes) to 'enjoy' my 360 for 8 weeks last summer.

The way the 430 is going, I'm afraid my enjoyment of it would be a similar financial disgrace. (Not to mention the inevitable testing of the wife's patience and the resultant investment in very old carbon).

Plus, I can't help thinking how much more fulfilling my M experience would be if i had an individual Estoril blue M6 with matching two-tone interior.

In the competition between brains and money, I don't have enough of either .

That has got to be some kind of (negative) record for Ferrari ownership. Would you mind recounting the details, or direct me to a thread link? There has to be quite a story here. I owned my 360 for 18 months and 7k miles, and sold it for $2500 more than I paid for it. And I believe that is more common than your experience.

In Canada (and the rest of the real world), the 360 ( and 430, for that matter) follow a normal depreciation curve, especially given our short driving season. I bought at the start of the season and sold toward the end of the season as my OCD (and the realiability of my soon to be out of warranty car) compelled me to buy another car.

My bad for assuming you lived in the USA. A short driving season has to really hurt any high performance sports car.
