Going to Sebring Skip Barber- 27 Mar to 1 April
Hey everyone,
It looks like I am going to step up my game on the sport driving side. I love the sport and have decided to head out to a couple of back-to-back Skip Barber Racing schools. I'm looking at the 3-day racing school and 2-day advanced racing school in the open wheel cars. I'll be taking the schools at Sebring (a track I've never been on) in Florida. The schools are 27-29 March and 31 March- 01 April.
I just talked to Joe Thomas at the school. Who answered a bunch of my questions. I still have a few for you locals though.
1) Place to stay? I don't need much. I'm fine with a clean bed and shower, ala the F1 hotels in Europe. $100 or less per night is probably about right.
2) Where to eat? Love to get some hole-in-the-wall good restaurants to try while I am there.
3) How to get around? I'm assuming renting a car for a week will be my best bet?
4) Anybody else planning on going?
I am from the Seattle area so I'll be a visitor if anyone wants to grab a beverage or a dinner.
Thanks for the advice folks!
Best,
Trevor

I just got off the phone with Joe at Skip Barber. I'm signed up for both the 3-day and 2-day courses. I attached the course layout of each below. Thanks for all the help with places to stay and eat!
The 3-day is only the short course, but the 2-day is the full course. Their reasoning was good I thought. The shorter course, allows you to focus on few corners and come around twice as often, allowing twice as much feedback. Then the full course for the advanced, gives you something new to learn (for us non-locals) and more room on the track.
Price wasn't too bad either. $6803.20 for both schools together (20% discount on the 2-day). Price includes all available insurance.
Insurance was interesting. $375 for the 3-day limits liability from unlimited (value of damages) to $2000. The 2-day was a different scheme. $500 deposit flat liability of $5500. Which if you think about hints that they are taking some risk in the 2-day that they are not being paid for. One can assume they are relying on the "improved driver" to mitigate that.
Anyway, I'm total stoked for this.
Hope to meet a few of you if you have the time. It looks like I'm gonna be wide open on the 30th.
