Hey all, some really great ideas here, and some really great setups!
I am getting ready to start construction on a new garage/loft space. My question is this: Do I try to tie in the garage space to the design of the rest of the house, or go with a more industrial/garage-type space (think racedeck, etc, metal cabinets)?

I think it ultimately depends on whether you want a showpiece garage or a working garage. We don't really work on any car at home, I have jacks and stuff in case of, but mostly kept with the same design as the rest of the house.
I decided to have my large garage expansion to be part of the house. Wanted it as much as possible flow with the rest of the home - rather than being a one off.
For me, I was not too concerned about resales as it is personal opinion - what what was most important to me was to design it the way my wife and I live. Should get few architect opinions too who have done dream garages.

When I added a two car attached garage my objective was to make it a "man cave", so I wanted some design separation from rest of the interior of the house. The garage addition is more "room" than "garage" as it is completely finished (sheetrock) with recessed lighting (on dimmers), Premier Garage flooring, and no tools/bikes/yard stuff...just cars, pictures on the wall, and a TV. I use my other two car garage for maintenance, and have a shop inside my house where I keep all of my tools.
