Height for garage 4 post lift?
We are hopefully going to be breaking ground on our dream house in the next 3-4 months and we currently have a 9' ceiling in the 4 car garage. It is 3 bay's wide and one bay is two deep. We don't have the land to add any more bays and we already have 4 cars so looking at a 4 post lift for future purchases.
Would possibly have a Lotus Elise and Lamborghini Gallardo that would share the same space, both are short but could they fit in a 9' tall garage or should I look at somehow digging deeper and making a 10' or qq' tall garage?

FWIW, my garage was like 9ft 3.5in. I fit a 4 post lift and keep a Boxster on top and my 996 turbo on bottom with about 2 in from the boxster to the top of the garage and maybe 4 or 5 in between them.

So essentially a tight fit at 9'...
I think I am going to talk to my builder and see if its possible to have at least one bay with higher ceilings or dug deeper(which might requiring re-engineering the house)

We have a 9' ceiling and wanted a lift. So we employed an engineer to help us move from roof trusses to rafters and collar ties, allowing us to raise the ceiling (keeping the same roof line). My wife and I did the installation. Anyway, we are at 10' or so now and have two lifts to stack cars. Cars of the height you are suggesting would not be a problem. What I did when I was determining the ceiling elevation required was to select my lift and then use the calculator from that manufacturer to determine the height required. I had dimensions of all my cars, used the calculator and had no issues at all.

Well I have 15 plus years at this house so I have no idea what cars will go there. I have two stories above my garage but luckily I can dig down to get over 1' of extra height.

No expert here, but hard to imagine not being able to add one foot to your ceiling height. Of course it could be trickier if you have a room above the garage. A side-reeling Lift Master can hug the door to the ceiling.
I have a high ceiling in my garage so it's a little hard to relate, but it would be a little unnerving for me if I had the clearances with my cars that stilov has (above).

Hmm. Never thought about that. My wife does pretty well.
Normally she is way closer to the wall than that pic.
Also I did make sure that the locking positions fell in between the two cars so if there was a malfunction it would catch the top car.

If it's a dream house, do a higher ceiling. I have 17' ceiling on half of mine and with my extended height lift I can put my G63 on the top and GL63 on the bottom (G-wagen is too tall to go on the bottom). The other half has about a 9' ceiling and it would be really tight to fit anything taller than two sports cars stacked. Even then, it would be impractical.

Thanks boss!! My garage is 12ft but since the builder was a smartone they ran a beam right in the middle to make it 9ft lol. Gonna check it out!
