Builder asking any last second additions to garage???

I told him to make sure it's properly insulated and he's getting me a figure on how much it'd cost to HVAC the two garages (two 3-car garages that share a common wall). Would there be any benefit to run Cat 5 wire back there?

He also wanted to know if I wanted him to place any 220 electircla plugs out there for any possible heavy machinery. I don't know what he's considering heavy duty but maybe would need one for the lift??? Haven't purchased the lift yet so don't know the requirements.

I'm also going to ask him to run a cable wire out there to be able to drink some beer, watch some sports and screw up cars which costs me more money to fix in the long run anyhows

So any other realistic suggestions since it's only framed now and the insullations and sheetrock go in Monday? Speak now or forever hold your peace

ps - i've heard that builders don't always do the best job with laying down an epoxy floor so I was going to have a company that deals directly with this. I don't want tiles so racedeck tiles are ruled out. I'm really looking for those epoxt floors that you can sprinkle little specs in while it's being prepared.

Any bad things known to have to deal with with these typed floors or is there a better type of flooring to get?

Thanks a ton!

Only things I would advise would be additional outlets or even a small 100 amp sub panel box which would allow you to run dedicated circuits at a later date for any upgrades you might add, such as a lift. Also CAT 5 and RG 6 for TV or internet. Other than that just make sure you have proper and enough lighting. Floor drains if you are washing in the garage? Just some suggestions.

220 is a good idea. Lifts can run off 110 but they are much faster with 220.

Have your builder lay some plywood in the attic and add a stairway access for storage. You would be surprised how much storage you could gain this way. If the roof pitch is not steep enough to stand inside, get a pull down access installed so you can at least have some storage up there. Also hot/cold running water with a deep utility basin is a great thing to have in the garage. I pre-wash all of my microfiber/detailing towels so I don't get a film of grease inside the laundry machine.

Watch where your lighting is when the garage door is open.

Why cat5? don't you have wireless ?

I would run coax for the tv though, and most definitely 220 for the lifts and maybe a monster air compressor.

Hot/cold water to a huge sink, and have him put hose bib somewhere below the sink that also has dedicated hot/cold valves to you can hook a hose to it. Washing your car with warm water is soooooooooo much nicer.

Have you built the retractable stripper pole yet?

Small bar?

Gas powered blender?

No - Just don't want to ruin nice clothes.

All the wax/dirt/oil etc. Stay in the garage and off our designer threads.

Plus a reasonable stack unit will only set you back $1000.00. Top of the line Miele stack will cost around $2600.00

Retrofit is the problem, I would not flinch to do this in our next house.
