Have I lost it? 996TT to 996GT3?
blah blah blah
switch it to 2wd. put a set of motons on there. lose the back seats and other unnecessary ballast. throw some pccb's on there if you feel you really need it. what else does the GT2 have? i never really understood the hype for what that car retails for? other than the fact that it is very very limited in production numbers. seems like a regular TT is easily upgradeable to surpass the GT2 stock performance, let alone a GT3...

There is a lot more to suspension than shocks & Struts. The gearing is completely different, the clutch is different. BTW, the "mod list" you threw up there is pretty spendy, those PCCB's are not cheap.
You're right. You won't pull 350 off, but you could probably pull a 100 with relative ease between the suspension, wheels, and front diff. What the hell, throw in some titanium lugs nuts too that some of "lug nuts" are so found of on here
So you have a used $75K TT. You put another $25K into it. Total investment $100K. You're still doing pretty well and it will have ridiculously good performance for the money. And a sunroof

I actually have a set of PSS9s sitting in the garage. Just been too lazy to have them installed on the TT. After having a couple of Boxsters and the TT, the GT3 just has a rawness to it that I love. I would track this car a bit too. I racked all the miles up on the TT from driving it from Plano to Boston after I bought it and driving it down to Blowing Rock and back to Boston twice. Don't expect to rack up the miles in the 3 if I buy it. I really don't mind all the noise (actually love it) and roughness the 3 has. I've got a couple dailys as well.

On a side note, let me know if you decide to sell the 996TT...I might be interested in that set of PSS9s

Good luck; can't go wrong either way.

I as making the same decision a few months ago -- 996TTX50 or 996 GT3?
I bought the GT3... I test drove them back to back and liked/needed the "rawness" and was looking forward to getting on a track...
I have been to the track 5 times and I know I made the right decision... for me.
Full time street car -- TT
Street/track/fun car -- GT3
Just my thoughts - I love the 996-3 and I am glad that I got it over the turbo...

The 996 GT3's are known to be Dyno monsters , I believe that they dyno close to 370whp, maybe more with exhaust, header and ecu mods. You can't go wrong with a car that revs to 8000+ RPM.
I don't recommend you drive the Gt3 in slippery conditions.

Stock they Dyno at 350. With Exhaust Headers and ECU mods mine did 372rwhp. It's fine in the rain.

GT2 also has no sound deadening, diff motor mounts, no sunroof, no speakers in front doors, absolute thrill ride!To the original poster, go for the GT3!
Oh yeah, and the purposeful 'clunk' and stiff echo in the cabin after slamming the lightened door sets the mood perfectly and will put a smile on your face every time.
Test drove the car for a 3rd time yesterday. Put about 50 miles on it in a variety of situations. Highway, country curves and stop and go. Obviously no track. I love it even more. Car has under 10k miles, options listed above. Basically flawless inside and out. CPO out to the end of 2010. Don't really have the time to deal with a private party sale of the X50. So it's bend over and grab my ankles time on the trade-in. Any ideas on a fair trade and price for the 3? I actually like my salesman as I've bought a few cars from him and have a good relationship with him
Thanks,
Rey

GT3 -- $79000 to $83000 retail with CPO and less than 10K miles from a Porsche Dealer... I think...
Many other will chime in and say that is high, but the P dealer knows they can wait for an $80K+ buyer... just my opinion...
trade in -- no idea, but at least you already know you are going to get screwed

I made this exact move a year ago. I switched from a 2001 996TT to a 2004 996 GT3 and couldnt be happier. The GT3 is such a better drivers car, the turbo by comparison, feels soft and disconnected. Plus, the RWD platform is alot more rewarding.
BTW,
The owner of my company has a perefect, concours condition, stock, never tracked, 04 GT3 with 4500 miles, black on tan that he is thinking about selling for $79k to buy his wife a tip 996TT (guards red). He has a 997TT and has to get rid of something and get her something they can both drive.

Hey Ray,
I drive my car on the road 95% of the time. My friend, a track instructor has a GT3. Roads up here are ROUGH!! If I was on the track a LOT more, or lived somewhere where the roads are smoother, I might go for the GT3, it always feels so "ON"!! Where I am, the TT is perfect, perfect power delivery, perfect hookup and I keep all my fillings! At least enough for me to choose it over a GT3. If we're talking about a GT3RS though, well, all bets are off, and I'd probably put up with the ride
