Have I lost it? 996TT to 996GT3?
Have I lost it? 996TT to 996GT3?
I've had a 2003 996TT X50 for about a year and a half. It's basically stock. I have really enjoyed the car and put about 16k miles on it. I drove a 996 GT3 earlier this year and really liked it. Just felt so much more tuned into the car. I've test driven a 996 GT3 that's for sale in my area and can't get the car out of my head.

Yes, you've lost it. Upgrade your suspension to something more aggressive and take the engine to stage 4. All Luis will be seeing is your tail lights
If you're really feeling froggy, do the the 2wd conversion. Now you've got a GT2.

No you don't. You have a 2wd 996TT. There is a lot more to a GT2 than taking the drive shaft off.
I love my tt but the sound of the gt3 with a good exhaust is incredible.
If you're going on long road trips, keep the tt.
If you want rawness and dont mind the rougher ride and love sounds and don't mind a high powerband then gt3 all the way!

Obviously it depends on the type of driving you'll be doing, whether or not you need torque in your life, and whether or not you plan on spending a lot or no time at the track. Honestly I don't enjoy long straight freeway road trips >3-4 hours in the GT3, because hearing every single frequency of tire and road noise droning along without any of the entertainment the car was designed for gets old. But, anything that involves curves or opportunities to shift a lot redeems the car instantly. I've driven quite a few pretty great cars and have yet to come across anything nearly as satisfying when you really start to play with it - the way it hunkers down and grabs you by the shirt collar is unreal. Some cars fight you when you start to play rough, but somehow this car fights with you, and it's brilliant.
I actually looked at that exact car about 5 months ago when it was at a pre-owned Infiniti dealership in Florida. The interior is one of a kind - EVERYTHING (everything) is covered in leather with red deviated stitching and the color and color-keyed wheels are absolutely gorgeous. I put an offer on it while I was on vacation only to find out they'd sold it at a dealer auction that day to some dealer in Chicago - that new dealer wanted $5k more than the offered price from the dealership in Florida - idiot!
I would make sure you get a deal on the thing as it's passed through quite a few hands and has been sitting in dealer's lots for at least 6-9 months, and you know what happens to cars then. Good luck and keep us posted!

switch it to 2wd. put a set of motons on there. lose the back seats and other unnecessary ballast. throw some pccb's on there if you feel you really need it. what else does the GT2 have? i never really understood the hype for what that car retails for? other than the fact that it is very very limited in production numbers. seems like a regular TT is easily upgradeable to surpass the GT2 stock performance, let alone a GT3...
blah blah blah

LOL other uneccessary ballast, like 350 lbs worth????
I agree, the price difference is staggering, but so is the difference in performance.
Yes a TT is easily upgradeable to surpass a stock GT2, but Motons + PCCB = 20k, taking out all the weight would add more money, then ECU, Turbos (assuming it's a non S) and the price would add up quicker than you think, not to mention, removing AWD, and adding LSD
You're right. You won't pull 350 off, but you could probably pull a 100 with relative ease between the suspension, wheels, and front diff. What the hell, throw in some titanium lugs nuts too that some of "lug nuts" are so found of on here
So you have a used $75K TT. You put another $25K into it. Total investment $100K. You're still doing pretty well and it will have ridiculously good performance for the money. And a sunroof

Trust me, I'm living that, and with the AWD. But there have been some GT2
s for <100k, now that is a bargain.
Both are awesome cars, and IMO both are overpriced as new cars, but some of the best performance and luxury you can get for the buck used.
