I wish I had all four to worry about!!!! (Turbo, GT2, GT3, and the RS). They are all masterpieces that have their own unique capabilities. Arguably the finest and fastest 911's ever.

what were the track time diffs at the ring, or any other track between the Turbo, GT3, RS, and GT2 just out of curiosity?

Just adding my 2cents ... but reading through the thread, I don't think anybody has ever argued that the GT3 is faster than the GT2 around the track, including Top Gear. In fact, the article suggests the opposite. What was said that is making people defend GT2 laptimes? How could it not be much faster in a straight line or around any track w/ reasonably long straights?

For me, I think advantage of sound and linear engine response will go to the GT3, plus a car that can be more easily finessed in the turns thanks to weight advantage and, again, no turbos. But given the choice, I'd probably take the GT2 but, I'd have to drive one first to be sure.

Here's the full article, btw.

I can partially agree with you, a GT2 got to feel like a GT3 on roids. However the GT2 is not the next level of the GT3, IMO. The next level of a GT3 is the GT3RS; and then the next level will be the GT3 Cup, and for the next stage of the cup we have the GT3 RSR. Porsche Motorsport provides a race extension of the road legal GT3 model. Can you imagine the reason because they don't do that to the GT2 model?

I disagree the RSR is the GT3 on steroids.

Both are amazing cars and I am a fan of NA track cars. Had a bad experience with a turbocharged one blowing up on me. However, stock for stock or modded vs modded, the GT2 is the faster car. Porsche made it that way. Yes given certain driving characteristics a driver might be quicker in the GT3 than a GT2 at first. However, the GT2 is the faster car, there is no arguing that! At the Road America club race, I would qualified 1/100th of a second behind a 996 GT2 in my 3 and by the first corner he had put 5 cars on me and began pulling away until we got to more twisty parts of the track. I eventually caught him in the carousel and held him off, but the instant he would get on a straight he would pull away from me. My best chance was in the brake zones where I think he was not braking too late. I realized how much quicker the GT2 is than my 3.

For me I would save the 80k and take a GT3, but if we are talking sheer performance, the GT2 is quicker, regardless of what top gear might want you to believe.

Because FIA and ACO rules make it prohibitive for forced induction cars like the 911 GT2 to be competitive against their big displacement rivals in the GT1 class. The penalties and restrictions are too severe. That's the reason why, or else you'd see a GT2-RSR.

bingo...

The gt2 is a gt3 on roids...and if they were allowed to run FI...well...some interesting results would be popping up REALLY quickly. You ever wonder why one of the record cars for Green Hell is a EDO Competition GT2? The car smashes what a cup or rsr will do there...haha

Since folks are obviously not reading the Top Gear article, here's a quote:

"OK, it's not as fast as the GT2, but 60mph in 4.3secs and 192mph all-out is the sort of not-as-fast you can live with."

It's not like I work for or am affiliated w/ TopGear, it's just that some folks keep suggesting or stating that TopGear claims the GT3 is faster than the GT2 which is just not the case. Of course the GT2 is faster! Why are people debating this?? TopGear (or this particular author) is simply saying that they prefer the GT3. It's a subjective opinion and people should take if for what its worth. I've learned not to listen much to what car reviewers have to say -- if I did, I'd be driving an R8 right now instead of a GT3. Gotta drive them for youself and decide what's best for you. This particular author happend to like the GT3 better so there you have it.

Well, coming from someone has 996 iterations of both... I can definitely see how the 997 models have the same kind of comparison, controversy, etc. Honestly, I keep telling myself that I'm gonna get rid of the GT3... but I can't seem to do it. It's too much damn fun. If I could only keep one, it would be the 2, but hey, if you can swing both... that is truly a nice choice to be able to make in the morning... far more exciting than deciding how to tell the Barista to make your latte!

So really the only solution is to buy both, if you can!!! The GT3 is loads of fun, while the GT2 is pure adrenaline rush.

I was and always will be a die-hard GT2 fan, but one day MetalSolid (Noel) let me drive his car up and down the canyon, and from that moment on I was sold, and got me a GT3 a month or so later even though I had no plans to do so...

$$$ to 0-60 ratio....

GT3 RS or GT2...Yea everybody know the GT2 is the Daddy of all 911's but hey for the $$$ i'll get the GT3 RS. Think of it as a 2-Stroke & a 4-Stroke. The GT3RS is very snappy and light. The GT2 has that massive Twin-Turbo set-up giving 500+HP.
