Skittish GT3s ???
i keep reading writeups about GT3s being (or at least "feeling") skittish at speed on the track. how they don't suffer the pavement imperfections well.
usually this is in comparisons with the 360 CS, which seems to do a stellar job at handling this stuff. i've heard this both from magazine/tv reviewers as well as individuals i've talked to that have driven both on the same tracks.
i've also heard that some notable chunk of GT3s are arriving at dealers with boned-up suspension settings.
curious to know if the latter is driving the former, as it were.
or is the GT3 just skittish at speed in turns over imperfect pavement? and if it just is (it just may be), is it ACTUALLY skittish or does it just FEEL skittish - if you know what i mean.
any feedback appreciated.
doody.

The short wheel base of 911s give it a nimbleness that comes with a trade off : if the public roads are bumpy , it develops a " corkscrewing " or pitching lateral/diagonal movement that cars with long wheelbases like Ferraris suffer less from . I.e., the Ferrari can traverse bad pavement better . Also , the GT3RS has different control arms that were fitted to control geometry changes better with lowering than a " reg " GT3.

doody,
bill hart suggested we pow wow.
gt3's are stiffer suspended which makes them very smooth if you drive thru bumps quick/at speed. slow down and it's skittish.
here's some comments i made on fchat re CS/GT2 which apply to gt3 as well. remember at stock GT3 handles the roads i describe better than a stock gt2 but 1/2 to a CS..
"CS outhandles GT2 by some margin [on the street]:
1] i have bumpy tight, some off camber turns on the way to work which the CS smokes through, and the GT2's would be bobbin' and scrappin'. weight differential quite noticeable. A+ vs B
2] from PCH to 10 freeway is a bumpy tunnel [McClure] where again the CS serenely tracks thru, whilst the GT2 jumps and wiggles and sets a much lower limit where you are concerned about hitting the wall. A+ vs B+
3] i put the stock seats, stock wheels back in the Gt2 when i traded it -- without racing seats and lightweight wheels, it feels like a cheap Carrera with extra power, wallowing down the freeway. granted it's only 4k for fikses and 2.3 k for GT3 seats and .7 for a rollbar, but i expect Porsche to deliver that kind of set up in their "GT"2, and 3. With seats and light wheels, the GT2 is an excellent package, much "faster" than a CS, ie has more torque and slightly more HP.
4] Theoretically a GT2 and CS are at equal price pioints. I bought my last 03 GT2 brand new for 140 off a 191 window in Feb/2004 [built 3/3, in service 12/3].. at that price it's a worthy competitor. In no way in my mind is a new 04 GT2 worth the 200 window, i value 04's at 155 vs 140 for 03, but PCNA still wants 200... in terms of relative value, if a GT2 is 200, a CS is 300. i doubt the CS will lose 25% of its window cost in one year, especially with no miles!!!
all that said, 02/03 GT2 is the performance steal of the century. i also like my GT3's at 95 a great performance bargain"
on the track when you're running hard a GT3 is balanced and beautiful

WATT!! You bought a..ugh..coff..FER..urp..ARR..gag...I
I though that GT2s were the end all , be all of Porsches. What would Journoman say, or was it he who told you to buy one?
Hey, best of luck with it and I hope that you don't spend more than you got for the GT2 in maintenance.

an entirely worthy alternative
Watt's just trying to pump the market for Stradales (or rather keep them at their exorbitant levels) and trying to soften the market for GT2's so he can trade back when he gets sick of his Italian garbage.
GT2 is very alignment sensitive, and with some tweaking of suspension settings combined with its power, can outperform the pesky little Stradale in almost any category.
He will definitely change his tune when stuff on the Ferrari starts to break! This will make him appreciate Porsche that much more!
