Old Guy, you are right, vettes do depreciate fast, even Z06's. so value-retention-wise, i don't disagree there are probably better choices. BUT many vette buyers are not capable of spending the extra dough (incl. insurance and higher service costs) on a truly good car.

for them, being able to buy a car that performs at the level of cars 2x-3x the cost is a great deal. those folks are willing to overlook (or just don't realize) the difference in materials quality to get supercar performance.

i think you are exaggerating the resale potential of both example cars but i guess i agree ... just not to the extent that you are making it out to be.

Meh. I'd rather have an Exige.

How did this thread go from (too?) understated funny to ANOTHER "gold-chain hairy knuckle" thread?

One positive differentiator is that GM will still cover the warranty if you track or launch the car.

This car will need nothing when it comes out. 620 bhp and 620 lbs/ft torque is outrageous. Hey take your hat off to GM, my God they are introducing carbon-ceramic brakes. 15.5" front rotors and 15" rear rotors well all I can say is, WOW!

It will be a fun car for $100K (plus the mark up).
I may dump one of my cars to play around w/ this monster.

IMO, it is an impressive car, and like you said has lots of cool stuff like the brakes etc... But 620HP is nice, but its supercharged, the new Viper is 600HP NA and has more potential for HP with a Twin Turbo kit or supercharger aftermarket.

I had an '02 Z06 and an '04 GT3, the Z06 had no rattles and squeaks, the GT3 had a few. I kept the 3 for longer and lost $50K in 4 years, not counting taxes. I don't think the ZR1 will depreciate much worse than any GT3's and RS's if you paid a premium over window.

At NO time did I say or imply that the ZR1 Vette would be better than the Porsche. The ZR1 out of the box is making big power and torque. It would be fun to have and run the sh*t out of it. This is not a keeper as is the GT3/RS.

GM has introduced high ticket items (ceramic brakes) for the car. Also Neil you are right about the Viper w/ 600 NA bhp. There is that track version too which looks mighty hot.

All I'm thinking of is hugh hp that I can beat up and for that this is an awesome car. Would be interesting to see a run against the C-GT ?

Cheers,
GT3Ranger

Yeah, the ACR, it does seem pretty cool for track use. I use to have an 05 Viper SRT10 and it was a VERY fun car, tons of torque!

Gotta disagree with some of you out there. I have always been a Porsche guy, but as a Father and Son bonding experience I bought a 2007 ZO6 with museum delivery. My Dad is an ex fighter pilot and drove Corvettes his entire life. I agree that the Vette is not built as well as even my 2004 GT-3, but bang for the buck? Incredible! It is very fast, very comfortable, will carry luggage for two, and two sets of golf clubs! Don't even try to say C5 and C6 ZO6 in the same sentence. Even the depreciation run rate is not as far apart as you state. Try trading a two year old 997 back in to the dealer, can you say bend over? Again, always a Porsche guy, but give respect where it is due.

One thing about the Z06 is that there is NO drone what-so-ever in the car. We stripped the stock muffler and placed a straight-pipe/muffler bypass system and, I couldn't believe it, but at 6000RPM there is absolutely no drone. With the windows up you can still hold a conversation; windows down---> WOW!!

Hey Joey @Fabspeed, the Z06 sounds solid and smooth. Good growl.

Here is my M5 w/ a custom exhaust, not from any of the known companies. Done by ASR Engineering. Enjoy the runs:

No drone at all. This car is used to go to dinner and get groceries.

Impressive car - but the engine is in the wrong place. That much HP in a Front engine car means trouble. I would get a Ford GT instead.

Thanks for posting. I was not aware of "Jake." Learned something new. I stand humbly corrected.
