New ZR1 is a fine machine, but....
True, this the wrong forum but this car will command attention in the near future.
This car will need nothing when it comes out. 620 bhp and 620 lbs/ft torque is outrageous. Hey take your hat off to GM, my God they are introducing carbon-ceramic brakes. 15.5" front rotors and 15" rear rotors well all I can say is, WOW!
It will be a fun car for $100K (plus the mark up).
I may dump one of my cars to play around w/ this monster.

I'm not really a Corvette fan, but after going to Laguna Seca ALMS, I suppose that the "Jake" logo (new logo of Corvette Racing) is meant to show fans and ZR1 owners that the car has racing ties.
For those that need a picture, here's a C6R at Laguna Seca this year.

I dont think the pricepoint is as good as you think. One thing (I dont have any data on the ZR1 obviously) is they depreciate quickly so your 100K can turn into 35 K fairly rapidly. Secondly they are not built as well as a Porsche or a BMW. So in a few years they rattle buzz like a behive, Using the 2002 Z06s that I have had the pleasure of driving I wouldnt expect much different from these C6's. Given that, I think 70-80K is alot given the reliability and quality factor of these cars. sure the performance numbers look good given the initial price and the group of vehicles that have that kind of performance. But I dont know any other car in that group that decpreciates that fast. An 04 GT3 is still worth in the 70K range and you can get a 03 Z06 for less than 30K. Given the whole picture I dont think they are really in the same category.
PLUS that doesnt even consider that Mr Goodwrench is going to be working on
YOUR 100K(not including premium) chevy!!!!

1. it will not depreciate that much faster, it looks like it will be limited production?
2. Z06 are rattle free so far... dont forget people learing and progressing in everything, including building a lil better interriors even in a corvette.
I will agree with you here and there. Although the 02s arent that good I gotta
admit I would expect the C6 versions to be better HOWEVER its still Billy Bob and Linda Lou putting these things togehter. Still good points on your part.

well they are! haha just kidding. yes the quality of materials is not up to par compared to euro high line vehicles (even the new 3LZ/4LT package isn't that great -- you're better off getting it done aftermarket), but the build quality itself is quite good on the C6 cars. (i've had 3 C6's, and one has 40k miles now and is as solid as the day it was new.)
and they are *at least* as reliable as any porsche or BMW.
lots of folks don't get hot over the vette (and for justifiable reasons), but you are the first person i have *ever* heard that didn't think it was a good *value*. it's pretty undisputed that the c6z06 is the best bang for the buck out there, even viper fans have a hard time arguing that.
i am not convinced about the depreciation either way.
dealer markup is looking like $50k. the price point is low enough that there are plenty of folks who want the car and can afford that. the risk to the early buyer is that the market softens and they end up selling (new) for MSRP. the risk of waiting is that you lose your place in line and then you can't get one for any price.
WOW Mr Mouse I thought you were serious there for a second!!LOL I have driven a C6 Z06 and a regular C6. They are quite popular with the ladies in my office (regular C6's) so as I am impressed with the initial build quality. Also I have owned a 04 Chevy 2500 Diesel silverado. So I am hardly anti GM-chevy.
But really I dont think its the best bang for your buck. it is initially but we dont have enough data to know how they are long term. The reason I say this is because there was an 06 C6 for sale out here I saw yesterday that was 35K, it was still in great shape but the MSRP was 66K I think with options. Thats quite a drop in my opinion 20K miles. So if you buy a GT3 for 110
and 4 years later its still worth say 75K and an 04 Z06 is worth 25K which one is a better value. Really we dont have enough data to answer this, but just off the top of my head I dont think its as great value as everyone is touting it to be. Just looking at those prices.
