Insurance for track days

Do any of your insurance companies cover your car on the track? I'm not talking about racing, just lapping.

If no one does, are there companies that offer this type of insurance in addition to standard insurance?

Most policies exclude racing...It can be argued that a DE is not racing...However, if you total the car or smash it at the track, I don't have a real good feeling the insurance company will want to pay...If you lie and say it happened elsewhere, they will want to see a police report. If they look at the OBD2 stuff, there will probably be record of how fast you were going that day...This is one of the major issues keeping me off the track.

There are many people on this forum who track their car and are either convinced their insurance company will flip the bill, are in denial and hope that the insurance co. pays...or don't really care because they have enough dough that they don't mind paying out of pocket...

I would imagine there is some tracking insurance available to buy...I would imaging it pretty expensive...so you need to be tracking a lot to justify it's cost....I guess it comes down to you have to be ready to play with the big boyz and be able to walk away not upset if you crash your car...I'm not there yet...Just my two cents...

This is a fairly big issue for me with respect to the GT2 or Elise decision. It would obviously be far easier to write of 40k than 150. I wouldn't want to have the GT2 and not be able to go to the track because of financial worries.

One of you guys must have a good solution to this. With all the people tracking $100k+ cars i'm sure there's at least one person that's not prepared to just write it off.

insurance

i have friends who had incidents on track and insurance covered it. i also have friends who's insurance denied them. then there are some insurance that paid and then discontinued coverage. my personal philosophy is if i can't crash the car and still smile right after and go buy another one with my own money, i will not put the car on track. as such, i have only tracked my GT3 a few times. i use cheaper cars on the track. however, this is for someone who tracks 30-40 days a year. if you are talking about occasional tracking, say 3 times a year, and you aren't push it too hard, then driving at a WELL ORGANIZED DE isn't likely to do damage to your car. BUT i have seen numurous totalled cars or car to car contact in many events.

American collectors insurance has a DE program. Not cheap, not a great deal but better than nothing:

I'm insured for track/autox events that arent races, but my policy was written in a way that its very generic. When i had a lawyer connection look at it he said theres quite a bit of room to play with no matter what track I can damage my car in or what event.
