KW Variant 3 question... (996 GT3)
PJ, This is Ken from RL again. Haha...
www.rennworx.com is the US dealer for Manthey products. They are selling Manthey version of KW V3 for over $5000 (don't remember the exact figure). I'd emailed them already. You can try it again.

Wing thief!!!!!
I just got off the phone with Bill at Rennowrx -- super nice guy -- and he is putting together a quote for me. I should have it by tomorrow.
So I can get the KWv3 for considerably less than $5K... so I wonder now if the revalved Manthey version is THAT much better... clearly Manthey knows their stuff... so maybe so...
He said that he has not sold Manthey KWs in a while... hmmmm...
In any event, he answered on the first ring and was truly helpful -- +1 for rennworx!
Minid: If I bought a cup car, it would be a simple trade for my ***** and my life... as my wife would slowly cut them off before killing me. Do I want to? Of course... the true question is "at what cost?" Thanks for constantly being the devil on my shoulder though...
Datax -- damn you

K THX BAI.
I have V3s on my car, and so far mechanics who drive my car love em, like mentioned early I hardly have any track days but great for canyon runs that I frequent and auto-x driving
KW is hugely popular in Europe & growing very fast in the US. We are one of their top distributors in the US. If you would like a quote, please feel free to contact us.
They have done some custom set ups for EDO competition/competizone for their MC12 Competition, Carrera GT plus many other street & race prepped cars for example. They are standard on the Mercedes Benz Black Series because a director of MB got a set for one of his cars, loved it so much & worked to set up a program with KW. Prior to MB doing the contract, they did lots of in house testing to made sure that it would pass the OEM standard which it passed with flying colors. For example, MB informed KW that their composite perches are 4X stronger than a standard metal one (can't recall which material exactly).
This might not mean much to some but Hennessy uses KW for all their cars.
The European magazines that I have seen, most of the race teams run KW and is very popular on street cars as well. KW does lots of testing on Nordschlife/Nurburgring. KW also has one of few 7 post rigs (cost $2mil) which simulates real road conditions which F1 teams have come to test their cars on.
They offer INOX coilovers made of stainless steel versus the standard of galvanized steel for starters. On KW's site www.kwsuspensions.com , they show salt test results which is amazing.
KW offers a wide range of applications & has created many satisfied customers.

I mean no disrespect with this reply, but I must mini-vent....
Most drivers...yes, MOST.... will not be able to tell the difference on a blind-test with both systems set-up correctly. There always seems to be some people who just MUST pay out the can for the most expensive/bling parts...to them, the moton/JRZ are a necessity. To spend less money on a part would be... cheap...
IMHO, unless you're making money with the coilovers (selling or racing), a properly set-up system of "lesser-cost" components will be more than what is needed. The majority of people who buy these coilover systems fail to invest the proper time and testing to optimize their use, forget about having the skill to take advantage of the fractional amount of improvement of the more expensive units.
The $3K difference would probably be better spent on a racing school or 5-6 more track days, or a data-acquisition system to actually help figure out how to dial-in ANY coilover/sway/alignment set-up.
But what do I know.... Personally, I have custom valved KWs from RaceCompEngineering) wth remote reservoirs on my STI and they have performed beyond my expectations. They are high quality units and may just be, again IMHO, the BEST value of any part I've ever bought.
I've also never heard anyone who has mounted a set of KWs say they didn't like them. For what it's worth...
Be good,
TomK

DJ: I looked at that one... it has dots all over it... and it is overpriced
Speedplay: Thanks for the information... sincerely.
ACE 996: vent on -- in your vent was actually some great information!
Thanks guys... I will do 10-14 days or so on the track this year... half of those days with instruction...
What got me thinking susp in the first place... the thought that the car can be even better... as far as spending tons of $$$ on bling for blings sake... not me. I merely want to maximize my enjoyment for the few days that I actually get out on the track... Relatively new wife, new baby, job, mortgage, new 529 account etc... if my 10-14 days a year can be any better I am all for it...
I am not the best or worst driver... but I am getting better each time and if a suspension upgrade will make make it more enjoyable... then it may be time to lighten the wallet.
Thanks again for your input... even the venting...
Minid -- any $70K cup car is worn out -- show me!

Most tuners sell what they know and for the past few years Motons and JRZ's have had a pretty successful run for race cars.
KW is the new kid with new technology so most tuners are slower to embrace "new" but the factory's haven't. AMG uses the KW varient 3 in the CLK63 Black series and the Daimler Viper ACR. The KW is vastly surperior to the adjustable Koni, Bilstein and JRZ's I've had. Don't have to remove wheels to adjust and the adjustments are something you can feel. Unless you've got a fully dedicated non street legal race car KW's are the way to go.
BTW, AMG tested the KW's over 100,000 miles on German roads including the autobahn and 10,000 on the Nordschleif before KW was awarded the contract.

Have you heard that a Cayman S doesn't compare to a Scuderia

Let's stick with apples vs apples.
I will never race this car. Tons of lapping days, but no racing...
I would buy a dedicated track car to start racing... but that is not in the cards right now...
I may just do it... the Kws I mean.
Enjoy,
TomK
