I'm not looking to argue about the "best" 911 of all time. I'm trying to decide b/w the 997 GT3 and 997tt. I agree the RS should be better on the track than a standard GT3 and I like the RS better, but for the money?...I don't believe most everyday Joe's like me can really appreciate the differences b/w a GT3 and a RS for what?..an additional 50-60K dollars? They both are great cars and if money is not option...GT3RS for sure.

Honestly, I started this post to find out why the GT3 was considered the better "drivers" car. I guess I was thinking more about specific mechanics of the car. Why does the GT3 handle better? Does it have a different suspension, does it weigh less, does it have a different front/rear weight ratio? I understand all the stuff about NA vs Turbo charged engines, the exhaust note, the higher rev's, etc. I really want to know why every car reviewer (topgear, car&driver, etc) say this car is so "special" compared to the turbo.

Oh! Of course...the suspension components are different, the alignment specs are different, the drivetrain, and of course the weight differences. All those things contribute to the GT3 being purer in form than the Turbo. In fact, I went with the GT3 alignment specs when I had my new suspension system installed so that by itself should tell you something.

I love your car Jason. I'd really like to go for a ride in it. I love the turbos and not completely sure why i'm reluctant to get another. I think because when I look at a 997tt and compare it to my 996tt, they look very similar. Maybe I just want something new and different? I will admit that, IMO, the turbo is better looking than the GT3. I really like the side vents. What I really want is a car that looks like a TT, but handles and SOUNDS like a GT3. I'm an idiot.

Nah...you're just like me. I love my cars too but I've always lusted after a Turbo. A GT3 just wasn't going to do it for me. I think I've managed to make my Turbo come close to being like a GT3 with the mods I've made. I'll be more than happy to take you for a ride in my Turbo at our next meet and then you can compare it to Vincent's GT3. It may not be all there but it comes damn close.

Easy fix. Lose about 100lbs, throw on a LWFW, a set of adjustable sway bars and Damptronics, with a nice exhaust and good programming (I like GMG's WC-GT personally) and WA-LA... Turbo ala GT3...

...or close enough.

Is the suspension different? balance different? I know it sounds better, but what did Porsche do to that car to make it such a drivers car?
Somehow Porsche have created a car that is a pleasure to drive on the road but also holds it's own on the track. The chassis is so comunicative that it rewards a good driver and elevates them to superstar status! The engine develops huge horsepower for a naturally aspirated engine whilst remaining tractable and fine for cruising or driving around town. The visibilty you get makes for safe driving. For anyone who wants to use one for everyday use there's plenty of storage space although the latest design of roll cage makes access to the area behind the seats very difficult. Roll cage is bolt-in so can be removed when not being used for track driving. They are also boringly reliable and capable of racking up huge mileages on and off the track without obscene running costs compared to some, cough (Italian), machines.

It will never happen. You will never capture the esscence of the GT3 by modifying a TT!!! Just can't be done! Ask the sharkster!!

Agreed...but it can come close. The same goes for the GT3 as well. You can never make a GT3 feel like a Turbo.

I agree! Put if I lived in your climate I think I would stick with the sure-footed TT as I am far to immature to be driving my GT3 around in the rain!!! Even at 61 years young!! You can verify that with the Sharkster as well.

GT3 VS. TT......It's a hard choice. It depends on the driver. Are you the type that wants comfort and soft suspension or the type that wants to feel every crack in the road and wants to keep the revs a 4-5k while cruising.
