RS decklid travel - CF blade hits the car
RS decklid travel - CF blade hits the car
hey guys,
just want to ask all the RS guys or GT3 guys who have the RS decklid a fitment question. when the decklid is fully open, does your CF blade hit the car? i've noticed on my car, the CF blade will hit the metal cover near the rear windshield if i dont hold it back. is this common for all RS? i spoke to TK6 today and he said the same happens to his GT3. he also mention that other RS's that he's seen also hits. strange thing is i saw fred's pet frog this past eurosunday and his blade stops like 2" before hitting the car
im wondering ... is there a different decklid shock which is shorter for the RS? but when i compared the part #'s for the 3 and RS shocks, they are the same. here are a few pics which shows the CF blade hitting the car. in this picture its hitting the car, but i slowly just placed it there rather then letting it freely open. im sure if it swings freely or the deck lid gets pulled too high.. eventually the CF blade will see some damage
also, my CF blade is set to the lowest setting. i also tried adjusting the setting and it still hits.
other than this small problem, i luv the new decklid. im sure there is a simple answer that someone has done. sorry for the crappy iphone pics
thanks,
fernando

thanks for all the comments guys
keep them coming. here are the part#'s for reference. you can see that the hinge and shock for the 3 and RS are identical. the only extra parts i had to really buy was #30, 31 and 32.

Do you want me to look at mine if I remember to do so tonight?
I will try to get the size.
May I ask what you ended up spending on this mod including everything? Parts, shipping, labor, paint, tax, etc...

i went to the porsche dealership today (they didnt have any RS in there shop) and i tried the RS shock. same result
now, im starting to think that the ball joint location for the bottom part of the shock is located lower for the RS. so, perhaps my only option is to just find a shorter shock.

turns out the the part #'s on PET is not very accurate. PET says, that the RS and GT3 have the identical shock. but, my buddy from livermore porsche (thanks anthony) confirmed that the RS uses part# 997.512.551.90 which is different then what PET says its uses. also, Sharky confirmed the same part number on his RS.
hopefully i can order the part tomorrow.

just want to say that im now a happy camper
here is a picture of my oem shock vs. the RS shock (997.512.551.90).. which of course is NOT the same number listed under PET.
