996 GT3 questions...

Hi! I'm considering purchasing a 996 GT3. I have a few questions:
1) How impractical will this be as a daily driver? Obviously the ride quality will be stiff, but how well do these hold up in the rain?
2) I loved the Porsche Sport Exhaust on my prior 996. Is this an option on the GT3 as well? Do they come standard with "Sport" exhaust? If so, how is the quality of the sound compared to the standard 996 with a PSE?
3) Any changes b/w the '04-'05 model year?
4) What is the redline on the 996 GT3?
5) Do the GT3s have RMS issues?
Sorry about all of the questions, I tried a brief cursory search for most of the above prior to posting.

1. Impraticality is realtive... they do not melt. No traction control... so they can be a handful, especially if you hit standing water at speed.
2. I do not know what they call it if anything, but it is glorious above 6000 rpms
3. NOPE
4. 8200 I think... over 8000 anyway
5. mine does not (knock on wood)

Try going to www.rennlist.com and searching the 996 GT3 section -- more than enough information there... really... more than enough.

I am not being a smart *** about question # 1... if you commute in the rain, I would advise a GT3 and a beater DD with a decent stereo...
Stiff ride
low front end scraping all over the place if you are not careful
every "import" wanting a piece of you when they see the wing

however, if your commute/dd is a nice, smooth, two lane road with no lights and no cops... then it is the best commuter car out there.

As my only car... I could do it... but I would not want to...

Buy a beater dd and take your 6GT3 to the track where it belongs

It does not feel "at home" as a commuter but that does not make it wrong... sort of like spreading peanut butter with a spoon... possible but not the right tool for the job if you know what I mean.

I used to commute in a defender 90... so I know wrong tool for the job!

GT3 commuter/dd is like secretariat pulling a carriage in central park. Fine as long as you run him at the track to keep him from going lame...

I would agree with the last post. Comfort is relative. It is harsh over bumps, tramlines on bad roads and scraps even the smallest dips. In addition, I have PCCB and it sounds like nails on a chalkboard whenever I stop. With that said, I wouldn't change a thing! If I could get away with it on sales calls, I'd drive it everywhere. The exhaust note is raspy when you get up above 5000 rpm's. It sounds like a race car. I might opt for a bypass system though just to **** off the neighbors. I'm debating that right now.

The one thing I was concerned about was the lack of power I'm used to coming from a 996TT. Although you don't get the same "push" in the back, it's almost as fast up to about 120mph. The handling makes up for any difference in speed. Lastly, I've never been in a car that stops like this. IT'S FREAKIN' AMAZING!!!

If you do buy one and you're a true Porsche fan, you won't regret it!

1.Yes you can daily drive it. Its a bit nervous but I loved it.
2.It doesnt have a sport exhaust but Manthey makes a NICE kit headers
cats mufflers tips
3 No major changes. Alot less 05s
4. 8200 in 1,2,3,4th gear (8000 in 5th and 6th) (8400 in 997)
5. Yes you can get a RMS Leak in a 996 I did and got the LWFW under warranty

Those were all good questions.

1. Lousy as a dd, IMO. I disagree with Old Guy on this. There's an active thread over on Rennlist on this very subject. In fact there are several older ones, too.
2. I run the Cargraphics mufflers. Livens things up more than a bit, but would not be good on a track with noise limits. The stock exhaust above 6K rpm is sweet.
3. No
4. As stated
5. Doesn't seem to be as much as on a standard car, but there have been some.
