cgt replacement
cgt replacement
Hi
My dad just bought a new 997tt and loves it so he decided that he wanted to look into buying the cgt replacement car. So far i have been looking online and in car mags and have not found anything. I have been looking at this site for about a year and decided to sign up today, and thought i would ask you guys if you had any info. The dealer in town put us on the list and i think were are number two on the list. Since i have not been able to find anything will this car even be mad. thanks for your help i really enjoy this site and your comments.
thanks
Josh

from my understanding the CGT was a loss for porsche, in developement, recalls and law suits. i would be very hesitant as a company to develope another supercar anytime soon. especially with the supercar and car market in general hitting the ****ter. classic cars are the only things doing well.
I just thought with all the hight hp cars coming out and porsche making as much money as they are they would replace the car. It would also i would think create a lote of buzz for porsche, i would think this could help them with sales as people were made more aware of the brand. It would also be one of the last times they could make a car like this with all the new regulations coming into effect over the next couple of years. But i suppose porsche is much smarter than me, and will always find a way to make big power.

The 997 GT2 has about the same performance as the CGT. Yes, they are very different cars, but for Porsche I think the GT2 will fill the niche of hyper-fast 'super' car for a while.
There are rumors of Porsche building another GT1 which was the supercar that came before the CGT. No 911-based car will ever take the place of a dedicated CGT-esque supercar.

We simple drove down to the dealer and ask if there would be a new cgt he said that he was not sure but said that they had started a list, there was already one person on said list we are now number two. Thats really all there is no more info, that is why I posted on this site. Just trying to learn what i can since the dealer had no info for us.

when i was in germany in february i did see something in one of the auto mags about a new cgt, they even had photos of it. i assumed that it was something that was coming out soon. from what others are saying in this post, it must have been a photo shop job or something
.
regardless, it was definitely in there, with a short paragraph including details. if i still have it i'll dig out the info and post it.

Yep, on the cover of Auto Bild February 2008, and I was wrong, it wasn't just a paragraph, it was a four page color feature.

I doubt Porsche will make a new supercar until at least 2012...
... first of all, European crash tests for 2014 have not been standardized yet, so it's hard to put pen to paper for anything exotic right now if Europe is your home market (this is why many suspect the next V12 Lamborghini will not have scissor doors, due to new side impact test variants). Second, Porsche will soon have a subsidiary that already makes two supercars (the Reventon and EB164) and is in part controlled by a relatively conservative government (the government of Saxony, which has seats on VW's board) and an increasingtly conservative labor bloc (the worker's union in Wolfsburg, which has seats on VW's board and substantial influence). Third, Porsche will have to reconcile its brand lineup with that of its new acquisition, which will likely mean steps such as concentrating on only a few high-end products or platforms and possibly merging the Le Mans efforts of Porsche and Volkswagen's Audi subsidiary.
None of these things points toward a new, independent supercar project.

That would be great I really hope that happens, sounds like all the makings of a good car. But from the sound off the last post it sounds like it might be just a dream. But I sure hope that it happens.

my german is not perfect, but from what i gather, it's not some pipe dream, they've already designed it. i am sure someone at porsche approved it.
from what i can see, it looks like it's a similar (if not the same) cgt carbon fiber chassis / tub with a new drive train and a new skin. if all porsche has to do is "evolve" the cgt like a 911, i.e. add a couple of turbos to the v10 and reskin it - it could be done very easily and quickly. and why wouldn't they build it? we are talking porsche, it's not like they have their image hedged in the high mpg "responsible" hybrid family car segment.
the mag listed it as a 2010 model with a price of 1,000,000 euros, 1.5 or 1.6 million dollars.
i guess we will just have to wait and see if they have it right or wrong.
