My best attempt at a no compromise dream car.

Hey guys,

It’s been a long time! Since making the decision to jump into my 997S and GO FOR IT, I’ve been kind of orchestrating the whole thing from afar. I’ve been overseas since January and won’t be back until mid-July.

The point with this whole car was to see if I could make a real no compromise car in regards to street and track.

Here’s where we are right now.

SUSPENSION
• FOR THE TRACK: 18” HRE C93 Competition Series 3 piece wheels. Flat black powdercoat all over, lip, inner barrel, center, other than small red pinstripe on the outside. These are mounted with Dunlop Slicks
• FOR THE STREET, cruising: 20” Avus AF-MO2 3 piece wheels with color matched centers with Pirelli PZero Rossos.
• FOR THE STREET, hard driving: 19” Volk TE-37 lightweight monoblock wheels with Michelin Cups.
• GMG adjustable sway bars
• Moton Clubsport coilovers
• GMG race springs
• GMG rear ‘dog bones’
• Synergy Racing full monoball/solid mount conversion
• Synergy Racing camber plates
• GT3 adjustable lower control arms
• Set up and track shakedown by Synergy Racing

BRAKES
• Brembo 15” rotors/6 piston calipers, (front, not rear for the time being)
• Stainless lines
• Castrol SRF fluid
• Brembo race pads

INTERIOR
• GMG Roll bar
• Cobra Carbon Technology Race buckets. Carbon Fiber and Alcantara
• OMP 6 way harnesses
• OEM carbon shift ****
• OEM carbon center console
• STEREO
o Pioneer AVIC-N1 DVD/Navi/iPod
o JL Audio 1000/1 and 500/2 amps
o Two JL Audio 10” subs in cool custom box
o Focal “Yellow Series” 6.5” components in doors
• Rinspeed Race Pedals
• Traqmate GPS lap timing and analysis system with…
• … 2 integrated Chasecam cameras

EXTERIOR
• OEM GT3 front bumper conversion
• Silver grill screen inserts
• Cargraphic front chin spoiler in urethane
• Evolution Motorsports carbon mirrors
• GMG rear bumper. GT3 race carbon/Kevlar conversion with tow hook and no bumperettes. This, with Synergy Racing chromoly bumper ‘innards’ delete. Huge weight savings
• GMG decklid with carbon GT3RS wing
• Black exhaust tip in the center
• Clear corners
• Tinted windows

DRIVETRAIN
• Evolution Motorsports Supercharger System
• IPD Intake Plenum
• Fabspeed Exhaust Headers
• Synergy Race exhaust, center exit, cat delete
• Synergy Racing lightweight flywheel with race clutch
• Quaife Limited Slip Differential
• Porsche Short Throw Shifter
• Engine and trans removed and fully ‘gone through’ by Synergy Racing

TRANSPORT
• 2007.5 GMC 2500HD SLT (black too) Duramax 4WD
• 24’ Enclosed trailer (black too)

That’s it. I’ve put some pics on here. If you want my thoughts on anything, or photos, just ask. I may or may not have it for you… but I’ll try!

Won’t know for sure how well I’m doing on creating the ultimate ‘no-compromise’ compromise car. There’s pros and cons to just about everything on here. I’ve done the best I know to do at the current moment. Building, driving, and tracking this car will teach me a ton about the next one. What do you guys think? I’m posting this in the GT3 section, because many of my track friends are on there and I want to show them what I’m doing too. Also posted in 997. Thanks for reading!

Jared

Looks like a very unique project! I wouldn't have gone this route but that was your decision and I applaud you for knowing what you want.

Keep us posted on the progress please!

without full a full spread of pics I cannot give you an opinion.

Super project, a ton of dough I am sure in mods

With the car being a "wet sump" system, have you looked into adding an accusump piggyback oil system to ensure that you won't get starvation under lateral load? Midwest Eurosport has been on my case about this since I switched to Hoosiers this season

This is a great idea. I'll be looking into it. Honestly, I nearly expect the engine not to handle all that I give it. When it goes, a fully built and stroked 996TT engine is going in. But yeah, I'll check that out. Also, I fully agree with the photo need. Gimme some time. I have a weird situation going on.

Holy smokes!!! Even if you love the process of building more than the drive afterward, this would be a very painful write off at the track.... no, not as painfull as putting a CGT in the wall, but with all the unrecoverable $ and time in this car. I'd think you'd be better off with a street car and a track car?

Your car is the ultimate dream car! I was at VIR this weekend for a 3 day event and I saw your baby in the Synergy garage when Kerrigan was showing me around. Also saw your bad *** trailer parked out back.

Your ride is looking pretty good. Your car is the only 'street legal' car in their shop that is full of full blown Synergy race cars. I think they're making an exception with you in working on your 'street' (just barely) car.....then again, Kerrigan did say that you were a 'fun' customer to work with.

Can't wait to see that bad boy tearing up the Southeastern tracks again!

Thanks man. I'm putting a pull out sunbrella roof on the side of the trailer too. I gonna love to sit there and relax with a Pepsi and cigar, waiting on my turn to get back out on the track. DocDan and I have somewhere to sit now!

Yeah. Totally. It would suck. But every penny ever spent is insured. Gotta be wise, right?

It's special. I get to talk about my car a ton on track days. HA! Most of it is answering the question... "WHY?" But it's fast. That's for sure. Most of the time, I hear that I should have just gotten a RUF. Maybe they're right. I have no idea. I don't want to think it to death. It's all happened now. Just insure it, try to keep it 'tween tha ditches' and have fun. That's what I'm up to now... well, in July.

Dude, you're either the kindest bro on the track, or you're EVIL. How do we know? Whether or not you shot pics and will send to me! I'll post them on here. SURELY my camera happy buddy shot pics... surely... right?

I'm going to email you about your experience at VIR. Gotta hear that time! With the Bilsteins (not Motons), minimum camber, a clogged intake (20% clogged I was told), Cups on 19s, and an open diff (YUCK), I pulled 4 consecutive 2:14s with traffic. So I'm betting you ran... 2:12? 2:11? Y'all... Dan makes a convertible Turbo go FAST.

I would agree with the idea of adding an accusump dry sump. As far as the mods, you've done a great deal. If you enjoy them, more power to you - everyone decides how to spend their $. You may want to check out the 997 GT3/GT3RSs you will encounter at the track as a possible future option. HAVE FUN!

On the Accusump, in checking with the 997S build cars (race-prepped, stripped cars) they have yet to have one problem with the 3.8 starving during long track sessions, even after a few seasons of racing. Maybe Fabryce has seen differently, but with this track record, I'm not going to worry about it.

Also, I have checked out many GT3/GT3RSs. Before I jumped into this car all the way (already had the supercharger and such, but not really much more), I thought long and hard about getting a GT3 or RS. When I couldn't get an order in for one, I just decided to build what I'd want. I left the States in January and had to have the car, whatever car it'd be, at Synergy to get prepped for when I return in July. So, since I couldn't get ahold of one of the other two in time (including selling my car) I used my 997S as the basis. I also wouldn't be experiencing the loss of money from the price invested to the sell price just yet, which felt good. It's worth noting that this car has been very comparable on the track with the cars you mentioned, at least if they are stock or reasonably modded. So, unless I get caught up in the name, I should be happier even with this car, now that it's got a real suspension and LSD in it, among other things. I don't want this to turn into a 'me against all you guys' thing though, of course. I just see no benefit to having the other car, assuming that I'm not looking at resale/not going to sell, and that the 3.8L holds up to 500+HP run at redline all the time. Otherwise, the benefits to the other two cars are in the transmission gearing and the light windows/wider hips of the RS. Maybe I'm missing something, which is VERY possible.

As you say, I'm just having a good time with it. But I don't see myself having this car and starting over with an initially slower car. That's my only point. I think I'd have to go to a GT2 or... who knows. I don't want to think about that. BUT, would I rather have an RS than my car? I think so. Quite a paradox, eh? All of the mods in my car came incrementally. I tracked it and found out that I was baking my brakes, so I spend major money on them. I have 500HP and an open diff, so I have an LSD installed. While it's out, since the whole engine has to come out, I should just go through the whole thing. I upgrade to Bilstiens at first, just to find that they can't handle what I'm giving them. So I go to Fabryce and get Motons and the full suspension kit (monoball, adjustable control arms, sways, etc). It just, well, happened. Hopefully I'll be content enough never to sell. That's when it'll hurt!

I think, if anything, what I should be wishing I did instead was just buy a Ruf. That's what makes me sick, in all honesty.
