hello all, 996 GT2

My dad an I have been cruising the boards since we started looking at GT2's. He got the car about 2 weeks ago and the modding has begun. The stock turbo wheels will be track wheel andwe are getting those powder coated semi gloss black. Comments welcome. And advice on intalling the 5pt harness would be welcomed. As in where to strap the bottom three points.

agreed, i think that would be beautiful with the wheel pinstripe matching the car body color. i personally cant get into the gt2 decals on any cars ive seen. i think they look much better without them though each to their own on that.

one point, get your seatbelts routed properly through the bucket seats. i know you are getting harnesses but until you do put route them properly. it will make you much safer.
its a simple job to do yourself. just pop the plastic cover at the floor and unbolt. thread it through the upper and lower belt loops and then reattach to the car taking care not to twist it.
not only does it feel much more comfortable but if you have a bump you wont be restrained properly without them feeding through properly.

i think ive got the TSB for fitting harnesses still somewhere. let me look and get back to you

Very nice. What year is it? These are terrific cars, but not for beginners. They are very mod friendly and when set up with the right stuff, they are killer cars-including the driver if they aren't up to the task....

The car is a 2003 with 14,xxx miles. My dad will be driving the car mainly for DE's. He has been an instructor for PCA and BMWCCA for 5 or 6yrs now. He has a cmod race car that is being fixed now and before that he had 2 996 carreras and a 993.

It's all good then. That's same year as my car. 02's and 03's are the best choice for mods since the very few 04's 05's cars tend to be kept stock by collectors. Enjoy it!

We sat in the seats and debated wither to do the seat belt through the loop and it just didnt seem necessary but perhaps were wrong. I would greatly aprreciate the write up if ou can find it.

i know the porsche TSB states that they should be fed through both holes. without them through they seem to fit fine but when you lock them like on impact they make a pivot point against the seat frame.
this isnt good for many reasons, the main being you want the seat belt to lock on you and nothing else but there could also be potential risks of it twisting the seat or similar all of which allow the belt to be distracted from doing its one and only job optimaly.
the feel when its through is also far superior imho but thats irrelevant when its safety issues.

the only ones you dont see threaded are the folding type bucket seats but this is to allow rear seat access.

let me have a look for the full TSB for the cage which is what includes the instructions from porsche on hooking up the harnesses. ill drop you a PM when i find it and email you it.

Looks fantastic the way it is. it amazes me that someone will spend bank on a car then rip into it before they have put a 1000 miles on it. Save your $$ for a nice track day, tires and insurance. I think it looks GREAT as is.

BTW maybe it's the picture, but your car looks as if it's running POSITIVE camber in the rear wtf!?
