What is the material? Is it a lexan window? Does it scratch easily?

It's the Euro OE RS lexan rear window. It's seen high speeds and G's and I push on it to show people the flex/material. No problems with scratches.

It saves 6.6 lbs. I haven't heard of thinner glass for US cars.

Strange as with the 997 GT3RS all the journalists note the lexan rear window affects the internal acoustics quite dramatically

I think install was like $300 at Woodhouse Porsche. I don't know the process. Make sure they clean it when they install. Fixed seat backs and roll bars will make cleaning it a challenge.

I didn't notice any acoustic difference. You would have to be listening for differences. With a screaming exhaust system, it's a loud and beautiful sound either way.

You're correct about the weight savings...

According to Car and Driver:

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...ression_page_3

"Along with the various unique GT3 features—the high-output 3.6-liter engine with its titanium connecting rods and all—the RS flaunts lightweight rear-window glass,"

Off of the the GT3RS Registry site:

http://www.gt3rsregistry.com/docs/options.htm

"RoW cars:
Clubsport Package (carbon fiber race seats, rear half of roll cage, harnesses, fire extinguisher)
Lexan / Plexiglass rear window
90 liter fuel tank
Clubsport Delete is not available

USA cars:
heated thin glass rear window
rear bumperettes
66 liter fuel tank"

Porsche of Fairfield states:

http://fairfield.porschedealer.com/L...43535/info.php

"Body

Two seat Coupe, body shell hot dip galvanized on both sides. Reduced PVC underbody coating. Flared body with lateral decorative stripe including GT3 RS logo in contrasting color. Doors in aluminum. Front air dam with lower spoiler edge and additional air extractor vent in front of luggage compartment. Side windows with water repellant coating. Rear window of thin glass. Rear engine cover with 2 REM pressure collectors and fixed carbon fiber wing. Rear logotype in contrasting color. Full underbody paneling. 17.7 gallon fuel tank."

Interesting. Did US GT3's come with thinner glass or just RS's? Is the lexan 6.6lbs lighter than thin glass?

Based on what I've read, only the RS came with the thinner glass. The lexan is 6.6 lbs lighter than the thin glass.

Good info.
It was mentioned that the cost of install was $300 but what's the cost of the window? I mean for 6.6 lbs if total cost is ~ $1K, thanks I'll lose the 6.6 lbs. At 215 lbs I could use it.
Already lost a good amount of weight from the rear with the FVD exhaust.

Anyone change out the side "rear" windows? If yes, what's the weight savings?
