who has re-geared their 3?

3's would be much more fun with lower gear sets -- has anyone?

I actually would like a slightly taller 2nd and 3rd gears. At Buttonwillow I run out of revs in 3rd several times and have breif stints in 4th in several places.

I'm curious Watt why you think the car is geared too tall? Or are just some gears too tall?

You definately have to work the gears in a 3 to get the best of the engine.

kevin,

it seems obvious but maybe not, the gears are very tall. if you re-geared to a 6th gear redline at 150 the car would be faster in general usage. since most of us here have no use for 190 top speed, why not make the power lmore useful???

i wasnt referring to a particular gear matching a track corner. you could have a lower gear set Kevin, and then maybe your 3rd and 4th would serve better than the taller 2 and 3 you desire.

it comes to mind as the CS is geared so much lower, and i remember the Fun gain in lowering the gear set in my 2.4 S

You make a good point Watt - especially about the usability of a 190mph top end.

Ok, now you got me thinking - and I see your point about 3rd and 4th. I wonder where would one go to find a different gear set?

The only gear that can not be changed is first.

There is an outfit in the US somewhere that sells anygear you want.

Xico has had 3,4,5,6 re geared with substantial gains in acceleration. Top speed around 175. 150 would be enough for me but the 12-15K price tag is a serious deterent.

I agree with Kevin about running out of third a lot at tracks. It's unbelieveable with an 8200 RPM redline, but it does happen. As far as re-gearing lower, I hit 155 mph at several tracks around here, and at VIR with it's 1 mile straight, I have been told that the faster GT3s were hitting 185! 150 mph just won't cut it.

in all these cars it would be beneficial to have a taller 1,2 and possibly 3 and a shorter 6,5,4 and possibly 3.

3 is the swing gear that really depeneds on preference.

Red face 1st gear cant be changed

Ok, no problem, change the rear end, that way you lower all the gears. Just give the GT3 a lower final gear ratio.

4 1.21 142@8200
5 1.00 167@8000
6 0.85 190@7700

If you switch to a 4.00 R&P you get the following:

1, 3.82, 8200, 40
2, 2.15, 8200, 71
3, 1.56, 8200, 97
4, 1.21, 8200, 125
5, 1.00, 8000, 148
6, 0.85, 8000, 174

The factory Cup car looks like this

2, 2.00, 8000, 74
3, 1.56, 8000, 95
4, 1.31, 8000, 113
