Are you bored of your Carerra GT?
Are you bored of your Carrera GT?
I know that sounds crazy, but is it true? When I talk and listen to owners, they always mention how great the car sounds and how it has great throttle response (I would expect both comments from someone coming from a turbo car). However, I also hear:
1. The front of the car scrapes all the time.
2. The clutch is hard to use and difficult to get used to.
3. The car is hard to get into and out of.
4. The interior is not as exciting as it first appeared.
5. The car is not as fast as it should be, especially under 100 MPH. During normal street driving, a modified Porsche TT seems faster (maybe because the torque is so low?)
6. Around normal mountain roads, my TT may be faster because it has more ground clearance and it's easier to see the road.
7. The car is very "stiff" on normal roads. I can hear a "cracking" sound whenever I hit a bump.
8. There's no room for luggage, especially when I store the roof.
9. The car gets a lot of rock chips.
In other words, is the Carrera GT more of a track car, and not a street car that you look forward to driving every day?

I have no doubt a TT is a better daily driver. I believe it is probably the best exotic around for that purpose. The CGT is more of a super exotic and all of its brethren (Enzo, Murci, Pagani, etc.) share the same kind of issues.

I'm not sure. I imagine having one, and then thinking that I'd get bored with it. Not so much for the inconveniences, but the possibility that my Ruf and Viper friends will blow me away on the local roads and there's not much I could do about it. Also, I enjoy acceleration, and I'm not sure the CGT is any faster than a Ruf or mildly modified Viper.
boredome: i think many of us get board (no pun intended) with our vehicles REGULARLY. IMHO, for some reason the shine wears off after a while and then something newer and more exciting comes along (new mod or car); and I want it. I love my turbo, owned it for almost 1 year and very reliable. Both the wife AND mom (women) asked me the same question, "how long will this last?" My father and brother, "kewl."
my suspicion is that this "character flaw" will have me in an F-car by the end of the year. Yes, I plan on keeping the turbo (I would need a daily driver that kicks butt).
I also suspect that for me the shelf life of a cgt would be about the same, and perhaps a LOT shorter if I wasn't sure about some of the issues as above -- that would be disappointment city.
I like chuck's comments: he's got exactly what he wanted and did not have any false expectations about the car's drivability and performance.
anyone else flipping cars or modding the hell out of a current one? curious.

I'm guilty of flipping...
Started with a 2003 C4S, then a 2003 C2 Cab and now the 2004 TT Cab. I did get yellow and after a month I still love it and plan on keeping this one. Right Arling????

I know what you mean about getting bored. I like to think of it more as becoming complacent.
You know, don't drive anything else for a week but your baby and it becomes a bit too familiar. You then have to jump in something else and the first corner/straight you come to it all comes flooding back about how special your car is!
Drove my RS for the first time in a week last night, only went out to get some milk and ended up doing a full tank of petrol...
Complacent, yes. Bored? Never!!
