Tim, I think that you should keep #13 and if you want more performance out of it then I would do some mods. I know you are talking about the GT3 for a while, but IMO you should wait until the next generation and then take the plunge. I think you should hang on to #13 for as long as you can, it is a special car.

Ed,

You know me well, that's exactly my thought.

Well, when a supercar falls into such a low price range, it makes you think...

I probably will upgrade my own driving skills in the next few years, first mod will probably be GT3 seats. Then we can both move onto the next gen GT3.

Tim, Ed, you know I have a bias for 6GT3 {Tweety} it has so much feel and feedback that as you drive it, it teaches you better technique. Plus that engine, useable all the way up and down the rpm scale. Plus that tranny seems cosmically harmonized to the engine. Decent chassis. Only LSD, no PSM, so the driver learns to pilot the car properly. Its all about good old-fashioned 911 driving. Good power but not monstrous power or torque like the GT2. Slap some motons on it and you're there. So my .02 is look into a 6GT3, you wont be disappointed if you want a great track weapon at a great price.

Bob, I can't join the dark side with you and Allan, I need to continue to work my 997C2S to the point where I am at 8-9/10. Besides my 997 can give you guys a run for your money.

BTW welcome to 6speed.

The 996 GT2 is:

- Likely faster
- Definitely more upside potential (= mods and speed)
- The best 80 sports car you can buy, bar none.
- May not lose more than 5-10k if you kept it for 3 years

and

- Dangerous
- Risky

Stock:

That being said, if you intend to keep it stock, the GT3 is the best choice, the rev limit and pure race car driving feel just isnt the same in the GT2, close but no cigar. Plus you have a warranty and you wont lose much value.

Modded:

If you intend to mod, GT2 by far, you'll leave the GT3 in the far dust with only a flash and maybe coilovers. But you'd better know what you're doing.

I'm a turbo guy, but it would be a touch choice for even me. But I'd follow these exact rules, which would put me in the GT2 because I like mods.

As others have mentioned, the GT2 is the better deal of the two - lower price and less future depreciation. In addition, if you enjoy punching out some 0-100mph, then the GT2 is much more easily upgradable. But the interior on the 996s is starting to look very dated and the driver aids of the 997 may get you out of trouble one day.

2 v 3

Can't go wrong with either car, they are both fantastic drives. 2 if you place a premium on speed (especially when modified) and the 3 if it's on feel and precision.

The 996 gt 2 will get you in trouble quickly if you aren't VERY experienced with high powered, non Nanny 911's.

To Quote Sir Walter "You mean you're going to sell these to the public?"

take the 7gt3
