"Repaired" CGT
"Repaired" CGT
I spent some time at a particular body shop that did the repairs on a CGT rear ended by a plumbing truck. Interesting thing is, were it any other car the repairs would not have exceeeded $2,000, the final bill on this one was $150,000. Of that, only $5,000 was labor from the body shop. The boxes that contained the parts were estimated to cost at least $2,000. Apparently after this accident Porsche raised the parts prices by about 30% as well (guess they underestimated part replacement cost, or they're really stickin it to their owners).
The body shops biggest challenge was matching the paint. Particularly, matching the POOR quality of the Porsche job. They showed me many splotches and flaws in the original paint job (on the hood which did not sustain any damage), something I would ordinarily not notice as I proceeded to druel over the car in general.
Other interesting factoid was the plumber was uninsured, and the CGT was accidentally insured as a GT3 (oops! minor detail). The insurer, though, stepped up to the plate and paid the bill anyway.
Had there been any frame damage to the car, they would've had to ship the car back to Germany and the repair time estimate would have been in excess of 1 year.

Was the CGT silver in color? I saw the same "blotchiness" issue on another silver CGT at a L.A. dealer -- primarily the hood. At least that's where it was most noticeable. Very poor paint work by Porsche.
