2010 GT3 Options
2010 GT3 Options
I have an build allocation coming up and want an opinion on whether the Dynamic Engine Mounts are worth it.
I plan to rotate my GT3 as a daily driver with my 993 and a BMW Sedan which means I probably drive it 1-2 times per week. Probably going to keep the GT3 for a long time and will rarely track it, maybe 1x per year (hopefully more when my kids get older and I have more time).
Major Options I plan to order are:
P01 - Adaptive Sports Seats
639 - Sport Chrono Pkg w/o PCM ( I don't care for Nav systems)
474 - Front Axle Lifting System
EZA - Interior Package Carbon
Am torn about the Dynamic Engine Mounts (option 140). Are they necessary / useful on a daily driver? Will I regret it if I keep the car for a while - what are the odds it leads to expensive repairs later?
Also, not sure if I should get Black Full Leather (78) or the Natural Leather (18). What's the difference?
I would appreciate any helpful thoughts on the last two topics, especially the Dynamic Engine Mounts.

Anyway, IMO, don't bother with Sport Chrono, it just adds an ugly wart to the dash. It does NOT add sportiness (front loaded throttle mapping) to the GT as it does to the C2s.
Full Leather is a must IMO, add XDZ to it ($265). That's the piece between the base of the PCM and front of the gear shift; completes the stitching and leather. Natural Grey is just a tad nicer imo, but mostly it's a subjective choice when matched with the exterior color. I.E. Nat. Grey looks better with blues. It looks great with everything but you get the idea. Nat. Grey is dark almost black appearing. Check out Porsche's configurator for more details. It is nice, but so is black.
I waited for DE Mounts, although us non-track guys will likely benefit little from the option. $1,300 is not the end of the world on a car of this caliber and I want all the new tech stuff available. They are innovative, although, not new. Longevity, who knows, I don't think it would be an issue and wouldn't think that repairing/replacing them would be that expensive. In theory, no different than PASM, right? They will be supposedly be a retro-fit also. Porsche has reportedly done an excellent job with these. The benefits -if any on the street- will likely be intangible. Resale will also likely benefit with these on the car. If anything you're not losing anything but $1,300 if you get them, but may add buyers to the mix later and may benefit from the overall character of the car when HARD pressed in the corners. Must have to me.
Unless you need power seats, I wouldn't but it's a personal choice. (Consider painted seat backs. Carbon Seats are very cool, but not very adjustable and might not comfortable for dd duty; wish I could sample them first.) To me it kind of adds weight and changes the GT3 character a little, but, hey I'm not paid to race GT3s so I'm sure it won't affect my multi-million dollar contract with Porsche.
I don't like the Carbon Pack because it's just fake carbon from what I know and does not complete the interior unless you add more carbon at a ridiculous cost. Look closely at Carbon Sills. They look great in an otherwise boring area and do protect more of the sill from dropped keys etc... but so does clear bra. They look fantastic on white cars. Mine has them on "at the moment", LOL.
Crests headrest, Auto-Dimming Mirror, Seat Belts matching calipers are considerations. I would also do something with the tunnel: paint to match ext. or leather.

Personally the carbon interior parts can be over the top, it's a very personal option plus expensive. You should consider zenons, worth the money and big difference for night vision. I had cornering lights on a Cayenne, also very functional. Natural leather is the best leather they offer and it is very good quality and it seemed to have the new car smell for as long as I owned my 996 GT3. I ordered full leather on my RS still very nice and most people won't know the difference. The stock leather does not have leather on the top of the dash and other prominent areas, therefore not as finished as the leather options. I have PCCB's not sure worth the cost for your intended use, but they look cool and the wheels stay alot cleaner. Choosing options is tough, I was happy when the order went hard and no more decisions.

I believe that the Dynamic Engine Mounts bring yellow calipers, take this into account (just in case you dislike them).
I would not get the Sport Chrono, just adds the stopwatch and a diffcicult to use lap tracker. Adaptative sport seat are not the big deal: found them useless in my previous 997 Turbo.
Painted rear console is a must; the standard finish is quite cheap.

Yellow calipers come with PCCB only

What I meant is that (at least in Spain) ordering DEM brings painted yellow callipers, as a way to distinct the car. Don't ask me why, I don't see the logic...
DEM is independent of PCCB; the only common part is the yellow callipers

I never knew that, very interesting. Thanks.
Although I never would have ordered them, I found that cornering lights and the park assist system were useful on my last 997 turbo. I don't know whether they are options on the GT3.
Dynamic engine mounts? Well, if you are going to use the GT3 as a serious track car, you will probably be modding the suspension beyond the vaule they can provide. As a daily driver? I don't see why they would be useful, except for resale as stated above.
