996 GT3 front brakes and squealing
996 GT3 front brakes and squealing (Update, help please!)
Hi, I picked up a set of stock GT3 brakes for my 996 Turbo. The pads that came with them are RS29 and the performance is phenomenal. That being said, the squealing is driving me insane. Is there a better pad for street use? What about the stock pad? Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks

The yellow RS29 is a terrible street pad, can't imagine anyone recommending it. It's a great track pad. The OE GT3 pad is fine on the street, maybe a little squeal, but nothing like the 29, and also easier on the rotors.
The vendor mentioned that RS29 are the OEM for the 996 GT3.
I picked up a set of stock pads from the dealer and they have PAGID P90FF on them. There are quite a few people who are saying the 90FF = RS29 on the net.. I can't find anything conclusive and I definitely don't want to put a new set of pads in that are the exact same thing I have now!
Any help is appreciated!

vendor is wrong
he is mixing them up with the RS29s because of color
stock oem backing plates are painted yellow and made by pagid -- BUT they are not the "pagid yellows" that people refer to.
Pagid yellows are the RS19 and RS29
Stock pads are great for what you are looking for.

Update, I pulled out the pad in the brake, an RS29.
Lo and behold, it says P90 FF on it, just like the Porsche OEM pad.
Is everyone wrong???
The metal backing plates were there and I will replace them with the little discs that plug into the piston area to see if that makes a difference...

Came back from a test drive and the squealing is almost completely eliminated.
The original pads came in a box from the vendor that indicated they were RS29s
The take home lesson in the end;
Backing plate bad, the little plugs for the pistons good (at 14$ a piece from the dealer).
The only catch is they might not fit using a new pad.

I don't know what the backing plate has on it, but the OE pads are not the Yellow 19 or 29. The difference in performance (and noise) is obvious. The little spider anti-noise things are a pain, I throw them away on the first pad change.
