Ultimate Factory on NatGeo

Just saw the Porsche Ultimate Factory show on NatGeo and wow didn't know the factory was that automated. Amazing! Try to catch the show if you missed it. From the very beginning to almost the end, the show kept showing a blue 2010 GT3, and boy does that blue growing on me. Is that Mexico Blue? After I'm done w/ the current Turbo, I'm going back to the GT3 and that Blue will be my first choice of color.

Looked like either Mexico blue or a variant (Gulf)....Was that factory not amazing? A glass enclosed bridge 5 floors above the autostrada moving whole body shells to the next facility.... Little robotic carts shuttling parts to the correct building (using elevators w/o human intervention) arriving at motor assembly for the precise build time...electrostatic metal coating pre-primer submersion tank followed by a water spray that removes excess!....all done on a constantly moving line where every car is totally different from the next & made to specific requirements.....WOW!

Much of that automation is quite new. The blue car was Riviera Blue and was featured in a German magazine review of the new GT3.

Thanks for the heads up. Just set the Direct TV to record it in HD this weekend.

I must say, I was hugely impressed by the factory and how much thought has been given to their processes... Watching the guy doing the leather dash was very instructive, also the immersive process of how we get our paint jobs was fascinating...

Watched it last night; very interesting show.

I like the Riviera blue; my wife doesn't; I guess we'll have to both be satisfied with white for now.

Just watched it on my tivo, great episode ! Interesting how they spin the engines cold several times during the assembly, i guess there's enough lube from the installation on each metal part...

I just watched NatGeo's Ultimate the factory tour, an absolute must watch ... i was there in 2000 and went on the tour i forgot how amazing the the factory is. Most impressive was the amount of time devoted to the GT3, my White GT3 (which they showed several times) will be at the dealer 11/7.

Yes, automation of vehicle production is great (didn't that start with Henry Ford?) - like buying a prefabricated house instead of one built by hand.

that was Mexico Blue; just STUNNING. would look awesome with yellow calipers, belts, and deviated stitching! that assembly line if you noticed was SPOTLESS! show may have justified Porsche prices
