help with fair value re: 07 GT3
how much YOU might have to pay depends on 3 basic questions.
are you flexible on exterior color? on options? on milage?
with about 40 997.1 GT3's for sale at any given time if you have to have a certain color or mileage below a certain number or must have options, its very tough to find a car unless you just get lucky.
i wanted white or silver only, under 3k miles cause i feel many of these cars get tracked and with very low miles, even if tracked, you minimize your risk, and i had to have full leather. i wanted nav but was willing to sacrifice.
so less than 3k miles, white or silver, and full leather cars i could count with 1 hand. so i had to wait and wait till something came up.
if you dont have any ristrictions, youll have a few more cars to choose from but demand is good and the numbers are low so its tough to find one if you're particular at all at a good price.
izzone looked for 6 months. its not easy and not indicative. sometimes its just a matter of luck.
my local dealer sold 2 .1 GT3's in the last couple of months. an 07 with 7.5k miles for 90 and an 08 with 3.2k miles for 102k
07 was light on options and 08 was orange but still sold

I wasn't sure if it was one or two; two is very possible, but no more than that.
Thanks for input. Bara well spoken-I totally agree.
So re: car I mentioned in original post any guesses on what it will go for?? Do you think I am correct in guesstimating on about 5k depreciation over next 6mo? Perhaps I should spend winter looking for my car and buy in spring.

In 6-7 or more months, maybe $5k, less than 6 mos, I think the prices will stay the same or go up marginally for spring.
I hope you are wrong about these being valued in the 70's within a year- that seems like a huge depreciation in a rather short time-frame. I have been keeping an eye on pricing for some time. Many more cars now in the sub 100k category now vs one year plus ago. I think with the economy tanking in the early part of the year there were some deals to be had, however, I was not sure on car at that time. Timing can be everything. Prices then bumped up a bit and seem to have softened with up-dated version and of course time.
I do not think that 102k for this car is realistic, especially this time of year. I am guessing that 90k is reasonble on 07's regardless of mileage given cost of new GT3. Given asking price I guess they are looking for 95k. Thoughts?? Obviously, there are better deals out there from individuals and independent shops vs dealers.
Certainly, I feel more comfortable with a CPO car, especially as I plan on being a long term owner. I will put more mileage on car and hope that any major problems would be unearthed and also covered under warranty. I have to assume car is clean if they CPO'd it. My question re: engine is I doubt that it is broken in and/or was itbroken in per Porsche's recs. Could this be harmful to engine to not be broken in properly over a shorter time frame?? Or should I just worry about checking for over revs? Not sure if I can get a info re: wether it was over revved given recommended breakin parameters from Porsche.
Agreed on the sunroof issue. Why this car comes standard with a sunroof is beyond me. I have an e46 M3 with sunroof deleted. I like the headroom and the added rigidity. Was it possible to delete sunroofon 997.1 GT3's? Is it true that 997.2 GT3's do not have sunroof?

To me, CPO or extended warranty is a must when buying such an expensive used car. The GT1 engine alone is $40k. Have the dealer print out a DME scan as someone said above. I know on my 996 GT3, there are only 2 types of over rev history (1 being bumping the rev limiter and 2 being mis-shift which is a big no no). But on the 997, I know there are 4 or 5 types in different RPM range so it will give you a much better idea on how the car was driven in the past.
If you can find a good used one in $80k-$90k range, that's great. But anything more I would just go for a brand new one and not having to worry about it's past.
If you like it, buy it. No one can predict the future. I think it can be said never has the resale market for Porsche been this soft. You have a budget buy the best car for the money you have. I always buy condition, a 1000 mile car can look a lot worse than a 5000 mile garage queen. I limited my search to original owners and then had it CPO'd, for me was the best way to go. Don't fear the track car, my car was owned by a record holder for NASA (with an M3) at Button Willow and a HPDE Instructor. The PPI and CPO DME scan was all 0s and the PCCBs were perfect with 90% pads (Seller was **** about maintenance). I also looked at Dario Franchetti's 07 White GT3 (who bought it?),which wasn't tracked BTW I guess he had something better to track. Unfortunately, his car was being brokered and never felt good about pulling the trigger. Good luck on your purchase.
Thanks for valuable input. I really appreciate it. What would you feel is a fair price for car I described in original post??? I am trying to get info from those with more experience than I have re: market.
Niello Porsche had an 07 GT3 almost the same options with 1500 miles (without CPO).
They were asking $103K and they sold it last weekend. I think that car sold for the $95K.
I think in general the dealer has a 5K-10K upside private party doesn't have. I also believe any low mileage cream puffs from Porsche Financial won't be hitting Mannheim anytime soon. So If you like that car start at 90K and see where you end up.

I bought a RED 07' GT3 today with 25k miles (private party). It has a lot of rock chips on the car (hood, front bumper and across the front of the roof). The car also needed new rear tires. The car had been tracked roughly 9k miles out of the 25k miles. I had the car checked out today and I'm getting a CPO warranty. Everything looks good. The car was listed for $71,950 and I got a discount from that (I don't like to talk exact numbers). I'm in the lowest 1% cost for a GT3. It's exactly what I was looking for in my search for a GT3. I can accept the blemishes on the car because I bought it to track. When I sell it the buyer will be buying one of the least expensive 07 GT3s just as I did. If I was buying the car to enjoy on the streets and track occasionally then I would want a low mileage car in pristine condition. I think there's a big price difference in these cars because they're a track car designed for the street. If they're garaged and not tracked, they go for top dollar. My, new to me, RED GT3 will be parked next to my 09' Black Turbo coupe!
