Smile New here and need some advice - GT3-

Hey guys Im new here. I hope some you guys can help me because my lease is ending up and I want to buy a used 997.1 GT3.

Now I have been in the BMW scene my whole life but my first car was a Porsche and I feel in love with it. My dream car is the GT3 RS but unfortunately its too much to pay..

so I want to buy a used GT3 with any mileage but for a good price, the lowest priced one I saw was 81k and another for 86k outside California.

My question is how is the maintenance on this car? How much will I spend early? I plan on keeping this car for weekends and may some weekdays not my daily driver.

And what year did the 997.1 GT3 come out? 2006 or 2007?

Comment whatever you wish

Cheers!

best deal out there right now is here to the best of my knowledge - no affiliation other than we are both on RL and he seems like a great seller.

http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...gt3-78-5k.html

came out in 2007
not counting wear items (brake pads, rotors, clutches, LSD, etc) and regular maintenance (filters, fluids, etc) I would say the maintenance is no different than any other like car etc... the engine is bulletproof... rear main seal is an issue that needs to be checked while car is under warranty.

Have a good PPI done before you buy anything.

Turbo < NA fixed

Good move to go from BMW to Porsche. I had my E46 M3 for couple years before pulling the trigger on a RS. GT3 is much better sorted for track than BMW but not as friendly as a DD. Maintenance and parts are 150% - 200% more expensive than BMW but you can always DIY to save a buck or two

One potentially expensive fix is OEM limited slip differential if you chose to track as you can see from my post:https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...sd-buster.html

Leave LSD alone if you only DD. Price of GT3 will continue to drop. I predict low $70K at the end of the year and even some high $60K. 996 GT3 can be had for high $40K. Mechanical difference between 7 GT3 and RS are pretty much none but does RS worth the extra $30K? No, if you compare each bolt under microscope but once you lift your head up from the scope and look at the car as a whole then YES, the extra dough is justified by pure emotion

Oh yeah, M3forum ... the Jerry Springer car forum with all the drama and fights between BMW vs Porsche, 6 spd vs SMG, coupe vs vert .... etc. LOL

You can DIY just about anything on a GT3. I have done PCCB to steel brakes, LSD repair, Euro rear bumper, Cup splitter, GT2 seats, Roll bar, engine and tranny oil change, front suspension mod for more aggressive camber etc. I will DIY the 3.95 L conversion once I complete Sharky's engine rebuild for dummies class
