INTRO & your $.02 please..... on purchasing 997 GT3
I agree with this gentleman here. If you do not plan on going to the track, try stretching your legs and exploring the other 911 models that Porsche offers.
I'm a GT3 guy, but you may find that something like a turbo or a C2S or even a targa would better suit your needs.
Be patient and test drive as much as possible. Since you're choosing a 911, I know you're going to be happy in the end

I was at the local dealership yesterday before the superbowl, and i sat in a 10 gt3 and test drove an 07/08 gt3.
the 10 won my heart (for that day), but it didnt have PCCBs.
but if there was an 07/08 GT3 RS i think that would of took the cake for me.
there is one dealership here that has a white 08 gt3 rs with pccb, red graphics, red wheels, and red wing end plates, but the car is heavily optioned and waaaaaaaay out of my league.
i told my wife that this would be my last sports car, and i intend to keep that promise. the car i choose will be my last, and i want it to be an enjoyable and memorable one, like my BMW e30 M3s. i regret selling any of them, especially my white one.
but yeah......the perfect example would be a NEW/ or well taken care of/not tracked USED GT3 RS with low miles, PCCB, yellow seat belts, and CGT /euro GT3 seats if possible.
premium sound and nav are cool for me.
I will wait for the perfect G3, its just a HARD decision which one!!!!!!!
Thank You ALL for the replies!!!!! YOU ALL ARE GREAT HERE!!!!!!!

If you plan on keeping the car long term......forget about PCCB's.
You will hate life the day you have to replace them.
If you get steel brakes, and time comes to change them, you can upgrade to big brembos for 1/3 of what it costs to replace ceramic brakes. The performance between the (2) is very minimal.
Good luck with your search!

GOD DAMN AWD!!!!!!! SOOO TRUE !!!!!!!!
but cant u just change to steel rotors and different pads?
the red calipers and the yellow calipers are the same correct? just the paint of the calipers and the pads and rotors are different, right?
i do have a choice of a 2010 white GT3 with either red or PCCBs right now, but that 07/08 used RS is still lingering in my mind.
and ty all for the GD LUCK with the search....

Im new to gt3,just bought my first gt3 also my first manual car after some 7-8years i think. I find the 2010 gt3 very comfortable even in traffic as DD.its just the bumper to bumper traffic that get tiring very quick the sort where you have to stop and move every 5secs(cuz you have to keep the clutch pressed through the whole time) otherwise i find the car very compliant over small bumps, manhole covers, small undulations etc.The ride is stiff so you feel like a bouncing ball on very uneven roads but somehow it (pasm?) manages to maintain the comfort level of a road usable car in every sense. infact i find the soft pasm setting too soft for my taste and now i drive with pasm on stiff which makes a huge difference to me especially when cornering there is very little to no roll and the car feel much more planted to the ground.btw i have the manual comfort seats/sport seats.
Also if you compare dyno graph of a stock carrera s and a gt3, the s actually makes more power and torque under 5000rpm.So after owning 3 consecuative turbo cars previously(911tt,gtr,135i) i found the gt3 lacking a lot of low end torque. Anyways after learning the power delivery and balance of the car(which took me a long time compared to other cars, say about 4000kms)
i just realized that i need to stay above 5000rpm all the time to really enjoy it,and wow its so amazing it keeps pulling till the red line and the grip is never ending, especially love how the car rotates so easily on power at corner exit like someone pulling the car with a rope from the front end.
what im trying to say that if you are coming from a bmw(i am too) you mignt not like the 911 at first especially the balance and confidence when driving it hard.so just give it some time and you will forget about very quickly

I would say test drive them. If the dealership won't let you testdrive an '10 then find a "friend" on the net who will let you drive one for a few miles. Another way to do an extended testdrve is one of those 1 day - 6 car driving experiences.
Personally - I think you a 997S is your best bet. If you really truely insist on getting a GT3/RS then I would say get a '07 RS with PCCB's. You really won't appreciate the benefits of the '10 vs. 07 on the street. The PCCB's will last forever on street use and the brake dust will be minimal.
P.S. - one person's "very stiff" is another person's comfortable. It all depends on the cars you have owned. I personally find my GT3 to very comfortable and an excellent DD.

Be careful and conduct your due diligence before purchase though. I've heard of situations where the pads don't fit the rotor or end up too close to the hat of the rotor. The rears should be easier. There are quite a few threads on this topic in the forum. Just do a quick search.
But as a quick answer: I believe it can be done with the right equipment and expertise.

Hey sjgreco,
good idea..... Probably cheaper route to get a set of used red calipers and get them powdercoated yellow.
Btw talked to Ron yesterday and my coworker Kirk on superbowl Sunday. Both had nice things to say about ya.

This statement pretty much seals it in my mind. If you plan to be a "lifer" with this car, find yourself a "perfect for you" '08 White RS and you'll probably never look back. As you get decades down the road, you'll giggle as you watch the increasing value and rarity of the car, and fall in love all over again each time you drive it!
Not sure of that.... You'll likely pay pennies on the dollar for a used RS with PCCBs versus reds. If you want them, get them, and decide what to do when you're staring at potential replacement. 40 years from now, I can imagine you wishing your now very exotic old classic had the very best brakes on it.
I know... I'm stuck on the buy a used RS train

I thought asking you all would make life soooo much easier on the decision......
ok ok...after listening to you all and especially sjgreco and mxdave74, i THINK im gonna go the RS route.....
but i freaking love the 997.2 GT3 also.....
so since im not in a super hurry to get my GT3, i think im gonna wait and be patient and wait for that perfect 997.1 GT3 RS ..... but who knows, just fell in love with the 997.2 GT3 RS also
Sooooo maybe just wait for a used 997.1 or 997.2 GT3 RS in a year or two when the 998s hit the floor.
if everything else fails, a regular 997 GT3 will do the trick. either way its a win win situation for a daily driver and lifer car for me.
