Is it worth it?
To answer the question about the M3 vs. A4 Avant, I ride bikes a lot. The Avant is much more pratical, plus I have always wanted one. The M3 just does not feel that special to me at the end of the day.
The next decision is .1, .1RS, or .2 The .1RS is the most exciting to me especially for around $100K. It seems like a bargain right now. The .2 is definitely an advancement, but not sure I can justify the pricing difference.

Go with the rs...not necessary, but oh so special. I just sold my 07gt3 and picked up an 07 orange rs. While the differences are slight (they are there) the wider rear alone is worth it.
You already have a practical/dd so getting a less practical car isnt a problem. Dont waste your time on a 997, if youve considered a 3 youll always say what if?
If you want a clean rs, your going to be in the 110k range...

I just sold my M3 for this very reason. It was just not that special compared to my E46 M3 which I loved. As a daily it's a good daily, but as a car I drove 4 times out of the week, those 4 times were not special.
I'm now thinking of 997.1 or .2 and think I'll be waiting a bit for .2. All those little changes add up.
If the driving experience is like what every says here, I'll be keeping the .2 forever.
