brand new OE battery in storage still good?

my GT3 battery finally gave up the ghost.

a good buddy has a bnew battery (sourced from Suncoast) still sealed in the packaging, but its been in storage for about 6 months.

Is this battery still ok? Or should I just get one from the dealer (a lot more expensive).

Also, the dealer told me today that before they install the new battery, they have to charge it for around 2 hours? I suppose that makes sense if they have these in storage?

Does that mean the one from my buddy-- assuming its still ok-- also needs an initial charge? How would i do that?

TIA guys!

Six months isn't that long, even with the time it was in Porsche system it probably is good. Any good shop can charge it and load test it to verify its condition.
Edit- I just noticed that you said it was still in packaging, make sure before it is charged that you check the fluid level in the cells, it may have been shipped dry. If that is the case then it would need an initial acid/distilled water fill.

kush is infamous around these parts
Porsche batteries are notoriously bad. I replaced mine with an Interstate. Many use this or Optima.

I'd look into these before going back to oem.

In the UK at least they are shipped dry and need filling up before use.
