Ferrari 458 vs 997.2 GT3RS
Thanks for the post .. great vids!
IMO the cars are completely different and should not be compared with each other though. The GT3RS is no-nonsense no electronics sensational piece of engineering whilst the F458 is completely the opposite, full of electronics and currently at the forefront of engineering.
Either way with only one choice my heart would go for the RS

Great video, it's obvious the only choice is to have both cars. The 458 is obviously a better daily than the RS, however, I agree I'd rather go w/ a PDK 997.2 TT for that job if the choice was between those two.
I'd take a GT3RS AND a 997.2 TTs w PDK. Best of both worlds. I think I prefer the GT3RS Porsche. Dont know why - just do. Actually think I like the Scud better than the 458. Although the new gearbox is apparently something else.
I like how organic the GT3 is and respect its engineering and light weight, but its not in the same class or on the same performance level as the 458 Italia. You can't compare a car in the 458, Gallardo, Mclaren MP4's price range with a car that costs less than even the 997 Turbo. The cars are also for two different kind of buyers, the 458 makes you a better driver but still gives you ultimate control. The GT3 RS does not suffer fools or ham headed driving mistakes.
What I like about the Ferrari is that with its technology its effectively everything a car like the GTR is, and with everything dialed to race mode almost as raw as a car like the Scuderia. Plus the engine is a freaking masterpiece......9000 rpm redline and a powerband that really is no compromises. Torquey yet frenetic at high rpm, coupled to Ferrari's version of the dual clutch transmission.

How do you define performance? 0-60, 0-100, or track times?
Carrera GT has Nurburgring time of 7'32", RS is 7'33". Same performance level if you ask me, faster than most models of Gallardo.
With my money, RS any day.
You can't base everything on track times IMO, its simply my opinion that the cars are not on the same level and should not be compared to each other because they appeal to two different drivers. The ZR1 does the " Ring" in 7:26 but I won't pretend that it offers the tactile and organic feel that the GT3RS does.
But I don't drive my car to the " Ring " everyday nor do I live in Germany so to me that is a nice thing to take pride in but it doesn't reflect in wether cars are comparable or not. Now the 997 TT PDK is really the car that the 458 should be compared to until a lightweight 458 in the mold of the GT3RS or the Gallardo Superleggera comes out.
If it was my money than of course I take a base GT3RS, but if you guys are paying than my emotional choice goes to the 458 Italia or the Mclaren MP4.

The smile on his face as he runs through the gears on the GT3 RS says it all. Check out the big grin in the Porsche at 3:14 in part 2 vs the serious face in the Ferrari at 7:10 in part 1.
It sure looks like the RS wins in the fun factor.

I also totally agree with you that they appeal to different drivers.
I cannot see myself spending more than RS money on a 458 with no stick shift to play with.....but this may change when I age.

Look at the face of Chriss when he drives the Porsche.
It tells you all about the comparison
I will get to drive the 458 in July (my friends gets one then) and will be able to see it at the track day. Surely a great car but this smile on the face... This is worth much more than anything else on the planet!!!
