Is the GT3 for me?
Is the GT3 for me?
I realize I am the only one who can answer this question, but as I ponder which P car to lust after for the next year or two I thought it would be nice to get some owner opinions.
This car will be a weekend toy and not a daily driver. I currently drive a 2011 Nissan GT-R and I find it perfectly comfortable and well suited as my weekend car. Before the GT-R I had an E90 M3 which I liked, but it was a bit too civilized for my weekend toy. However, I sometimes miss the high revving NA motor. I also miss the lighter feeling of the M3 even though the GT-R's grip more than makes up for this.
I have yet to track a car, but I hope to change that soon. My dad recently bought a '03 996 and is planning to join the local Porsche club and attend track events. I have been invited to join him with my car and will do so if at all possible.
I've driven most ever iteration of the 997 except for the GT cars. I enjoyed the Turbo's power(997.1), but it didn't have that edge I like. The C2S (997.2) was a blast to drive, but I can't help but wonder if the GT3 will be even better.
Should the object of my lust be the GT3 or should I just go after a S car and be happy while saving a few bucks in the process?

Maybe the GT3 isn't for me, but I won't know until I spend some time behind the wheel. Since I prefer the .2 cars it isn't easy finding one to drive. I guess at this point I will keep saving for a GT3 and hope that some seat time will confirm it is the car for me.
Go big or go home! GT3 all the way...

gonna have to use this one again.
I have an 09' Turbo coupe and an 07' GT3. I love the turbo for daily driving,,, but I always find myself drawn to the raw feeling of the GT3! As far as the sound and handling, there's no comparison! The GT3 rocks!
I think if your father joins the PCA, you can probably go to the events and find some nice GT3 owners who will give you a ride for a hotlap. This way you will be able to get some ideas if the car is for you, and to ask the owners any further questions.
Even for GT3s, there are a few generations of them (from 996 to 997.2.) Prepare to spend a little more time researching which generation is best-fitted for you and your budget. Hope you will join our GT3 family soon.
With best regards,

I think it comes down to what transmission you want to drive on the track. If you want to push the pedals, the GT3 is as good as it gets. Definitely a lot of driver involvement with the GT3. You have the best car if you want to drive an automanual on the track.
I actually plan for my next car to have a third pedal. My last three cars (Lexus IS-F, BMW M3 DCT and the GT-R) have all had two pedals and paddles and I am starting to miss driving a stick. I know I will be giving up some performance that these modern transmissions offer, but a manual Porsche has been on my wish list since before I could drive.
The man wants to push pedals. He answered his own question: GT3. Raw, visceral, and balanced.

I'm coming from a 996 X50 turbo to a 2009 GTR and now a 997.1 GT3RS. I know the GTR is faster than the GT3 but the GT3 feels like a race car and the GTR a street car. The engine noise, the steering feel, the brakes are wonderful on the GT3.
A stock GT3 RS placed 13th in the 24hrs race a while ago without the car falling apart. With the GT3 I feel you are paying for an engineering marvel that would not fall apart under track conditions.
Go test drive both and then you will ask yourself how can you cross shop between the S an the GT3? This is no comparason and feels like two different cars.
