Rims and tires for mk.2 RS options

I'm planning on down sizing my rims 18" so that I can fit some decent road tires such as the PS2s on for daily use and keep the 19" MSCP for track use.

Anyone done this? What tires sizes should I use? 245 for the front and 335 for the rear? The don't make 325s for PS2s.

The 18" rims will need to be center lock obviously and able to clear PCCBs. As it is there isn't much clearance for the calipers with the original 19"s. Anyone got any rims to recommend?

Any input would be great..thanks guys

At the moment, (to my knowledge) we are the only company that offers an 18 inch centerlock wheel for the RS. If you use a 335, we can also make a 12.5 rear wheel.

There is no problem fitting the PCCBs with our 18" wheels. They also fit Brembo and Stop Tech.

You may want to re-think your idea. I would do the opposite; 19" wheels for the road and 18" wheels for the track. The reason is that you should want the lighter wheel for the track and generally 18" wheels are lighter than 19" wheels. Not to mention there's a broader choice of track tires for 18" wheels.

You are right about the tire selection. In Europe, most of the quickest guys are on 18s. I attribute that to tire selection and compounds available. (Grant you, I am not a tire expert, just informed).
However, the 18s and 19s when mounted will be very close in weight. The lighter weight of the 18" wheel is offset by the heavier 18" inch tire. This assumes the wheels are made by the same company in the same style and width.
Many enthusiasts don't pay close attention to tire weight, but I have seen 3-4 lbs difference among brands, with the same size tire.

x2! I would recommend the 18" for the track. The 19" wheels are too pretty to only show off on the track!

Seriously though, I have a friend with who went from 19" to 18" on the track setup for his 996TT and it made a huge difference in lap times as well as allowed him to run a more comfortable street setup given he wasn't forced to use his only set of wheels for both track/street.

Hi MJ,

Thanks for ur input...that's my usual choice as well. However the weather here in Singapore is either hot or rainy. And it changes within a few mins at times. That's why I need proper wet and dry tires such as the ps2 which aren't available in 19" for daily use..the MSCPs just don't fare that well in the wet.

PS2's are available in 18"...they were OEM for the 996GT3.
