I am in the market to buy a new In car camera system. I wanted to get everyones opinion on which one you guys would recommend and what you wouldn't recommend. I want to spend around $800 I am willing to go up to $1000 if need be. Is that doable? I would like a two camera system if possible and in HD? Your opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Guys

The Go Pro Hero camera is cheap and acceptable for the price. It also records in HD..... check out their website.

Thanks for the quick response. Do they have the regular screw in type base on those so I can use my roll bar mount? I checked out there web site. I watched a few video's. It is priced competatively so I could buy two or three. I like this one so far.

No, the camera is housed in a special case that slides into a Go Pro specific mount. You will need to buy the Go Pro roll cage mount as a result.

If you buy the GoPro HD Hero Motorsport version, it already comes with it I believe.

I have the GoPro HD mounted to my roll bar. The cost is under $300 and the video quality is great (1080). It comes with several mounts but NOT a roll bar mount. The roll bar mount is an additional $29 but worth having. If recording in HD the file sizes are large (2-4 gb per 20-40 minute driving session) so a big SD card is helpful. I have a 32 gb card which is more than enough. Battery life is about 2.5hrs between recharges, so you want to shut the camera off altogether between driving sessions.

I am running Pikes Peak and I tested the Go Pro when I made my notes. Incredible! I am buying a second one for the race. 1 in and 1 out. Its the onlt camera that I have ever seen with only 2 buttons!

Best set-up (mounting options, video quality, camera size, etc.) is Contour HD 1080 in my opinion.

See some examples of Videos I did using 2 cameras in my Cup Car (look at it in 1080p and in full screen mode to really enjoy the quality):

Thanks for all the replies everyone. There is some great information here. Does the Contour HD come with the tripod hole so I can mount to all the different mounts I already have?
