Guys, I need your help... Service battle with dealer.
Guys, I need your help... Service battle with dealer.
Ok... So, Ive been having a suspension issue that sounds like metal is binding and the "POP" releasing when the suspension is going from fully umcompressed (hanging) back to compressed..... ie. going in and out of driveways. I can only hear this noise from the front right.
To make a long story short.... took it to my shop to take a quick look and they noticed my spring was coming "unmounted" below the "spring perch" or "spring hanger." No biggie, I picked up the car and took it to the dealer to have them address the issue since I had not modified this area of the suspension at all, I didnt think it would be an issue.
They come back to me and say that the "teflon sleeve" that normally is between the contact area of the spring hanger and the top of the spring is missing. Initially it was the dealer telling me that my shop must have done it (which is entirely impossible - the strut assembly was never unmounted for any reason).
I then take the position that the teflon sleeve must have been missing from the factory. My strut assemblies have never been taken apart, which is the only way to access the area where the sleeve is. I sit down with the service manager and he basically tells me to pound sand. He said that if it was missing from the factory, the dealer I bought it at should have caught it at PDI, and he's not taking the heat for it. Gave me the number for Porsche North America and told me to call them. Ive never received worse customer service from a single individual in my entire life. It was just unbelievable how he talked to me.
So, then I go out to look at another GT3 that was in for service. It had the sleeves. I was able to take the part number off of the "spring hanger." I then went over to my car and got the part number off of it..... It was a different part number!!!
The p/n on the other GT3 that had the teflon ring was 997.343.511.92. The p/n on mine was 997.343.511.90. Can anyone help me figure out why mine has a different part number????
Both cars had front lift.
I have attached a pic of my car - no white teflon ring.
Also one of the other GT3 - with white teflon ring.
Also, the schematic.
Thanks guys!!

Note that my car was on a rack when the pics was taken - hence the gap at the top.

thats a crazy story but unfortunately not surprising when it comes to the world of car dealers! btw, i occasionally get a pop sound over driveways on my 07. never looked into why though. i hope you get yours sorted. good luck
So cal is well known for being extremely difficult with modded cars . I can almost guess the dealership even though I have never been to it just from reading posts and talking to other members .
Try another dealership . You may want to convert the car to stock but that's up to you.

Man the dealer sounds like a real kick in the ballz. Have you tried another dealer?
At the every worse can you just get that part (teflon sleeve) and have it installed like at RSS?
I hope you can get this sorted out and resolved in your favor.

I'll call Porsche NA tomorrow..... The real mystery is why does my car have a different part number than another GT3 that was built a month later? Anybody have access to detailed information on the part numbers I listed above?
I could easily buy the sleeve and have it installed, but that's not the point.... I'm going to battle this. Especially after the middle finger that the dealership (service manager) shot me today.

An update.... So I called and emailed the dealer this morning and pointed out that it looks like my car *does* have that sleeve (look at the pic above - it's black, not white). I sent them the pic i had as evidence which also shows the part number, which is incorrect. I asked them to take another look to see if this really is the issue. I also asked for them to look into why my car has a part on it which, according the drawing and parts list, does not belong on my car - the 997.353.511.90 spring hanger.
This is the resonse that I got:
"...not willing to have a tech spend time on this suspension noise since the modifications have changed the spring position."
So they aren't even willing to put the car on a lift to take another look..... Aren't willing to do any research as to why the car has a part on it that likely doesn't belong.... Nothing. They are 100% refusing service.
I have never been treated so poorly and rudely as I was by the service manager.
This was all at Power Porsche in Newport Beach - Newport Auto Center. (Audi, Porsche, Bentley). I have opened a claim with Porsche NA....not so much for the mechanical issue as for the poor customer service. I will never set foot at this dealership again..... Any prospect of any purchase of any car in the future will never happen at this dealership.

Picked up the car from the dealer and immediately did my own little test while pulling into my driveway. With the Front Lift in the up position, I first pulled in from the right - this angle allowed for the front left wheel to be "free hanging" by about 1/8". It was just enough to be able to turn the wheel - I then inspected the top of the assembly. Looked right to me - no gap. I then did the same from the left which allowed for the right wheel to be free hanging - was able to clearly see the gap. I reached up, and the spring was not even coming into contact with the top!
1st video & 1st pic is left side = normal
2nd video & 2nd pic is right side = WTF??
Also confirmed that there are no white teflon "sleeves" like you see in the pic above. Just a flimsy piece of black plastic. Im totally confused about this deal.

Is there another dealer in your area? I think I would have tried a different dealer before filing a claim but that is moot now. Usually when all the numbers in part numbers are the same except the last one, it usually means left and right, but maybe you already knew that. I hope you get some satisfaction from PNA. Good luck. You may find just changing the part and moving on to be a lot less hassle but I understand why you want them to fix it.
I filed the claim for the incredibly poor service (treatment) I received from the service manager as much or more than for the actual issue.
