What should I be looking for in 18" beater track wheels for a 7.1 GT3?

CCW is a hell of a nice wheel, but damn they're not cheap.

I still wish there was an OEM Porsche 18" option that fit on our cars. It would be great to snap up a used set of 18" takeoffs from a street guy that upgraded. I've certainly sold my share of those I can't seem to find anything in 18" from Porsche that actually fits. The 997S 18's are only 10" wide.

You think a set of $2800 CCW's (forged too!) are expensive you need to go price out a set of forged BBS, HRE, Work and the host of others. Expect to pay $6000 or other comparable forged wheels.

I know, I know... Still shopping. I have been all over CCW's site this morning.

As far as CCW goes, are the 3 piece wheels they make better than the 1 piece wheels? I'm so confused....

They actually make some "race" wheels in 3 piece that aren't horribly priced and are setup for the track (ie no center cap, lots of extra holes, ugly mounting hardware, etc).

The 3pcs wheels on the ccw site are $200 less I think. I've heard of some 3pc leaking so I went with monoblock. The reason for 3 piece and that some race teams use them is they can take the wheel apart and rebuild it since the cneter and outer ring of a 3pc is bolted together. Monoblock is all 1 piece so if a race team bends a outer ring the wheel is basically done.

I should have just called you but this is probably good information for someone else who might be looking.

I had issues with my cargraphic 3p wheels leaking a bit. Not horrible as it was very slow, as in a couple psi per week.

I do like the idea of being able to rebuild the wheel (see my renlist post

I wonder how they compare weight wise?

We have a set of 18" brushed Forge Star F14 on hand, ready to ship. They were ordered for a GT3 RS, out of the shop right now so have to look at the offsets to see if it would fit a GT3.

GT3/RS is a wide body car...ala C4 & Turbo .Fronts are same offset but rear are different.

if you are talking about 996gt3 18" take off's. i have them. looking for $1800/set.

CCW is pretty cheap for track wheels.
i am not sure i would put anything cheaper than CCW on my GT3.

Forgestar is def out. You have to use hub rings and diff lug bolts. Not giving me the warm fuzzies. Pass....

I'm back to the OZ's. The price is just too tempting, especially since they are coming form a reliable manufacturer and that I've used them before. Like I said above, I ran them on my 996 with great success. Good looking wheel, and super light/strong. I picked up a body panel screw and had a blowout during turn 5 at Sebring. Caused a wicked spin which resulted in the tire dismounting and the car flying over the race curbing backwards into the dirt.

The wheel was scratched around the edges, but it was still true with no bends. I wouldn't have expected any wheel to come out of that so well.

The OZ's are an exact replacement fit with same widths and offset as our OEM wheels, except in 18". On my 996 I think the fronts were 18 pounds and the rears were 20. These rears will be a little heavier as they are 12" instead of the 10.5's I was running previously.

And they are TUV approved.

On a side note, are you guys running TPM sensors on your track wheels? If so, what frequency am I supposed to get?

Like I mentioned earlier, I have read people are pretty satisfied with the quality of OZ Allegeritas... They said the same thing as you, they don't bend or crack easily and can take a beating!

I am getting CCW, b/c I am upgrading my brakes and I need to be sure that they will clear the brakes

My main concern for ANYONE considering the F14s as a track wheel is the 1200lb load rating. Did Forgestar ever get this cleared up?

Get a CCW forged one piece and don't look back. They are strong as hell.
