What should I be looking for in 18" beater track wheels for a 7.1 GT3?
Yeah the Forgestars are just not what I'd call track wheels...load rating, have to add hub centric rings, can't use stock lug bolts....just does not add up.
The OZ Allegretta are great cast bang for the buck and then the CCW's for forged are tried and true real racing wheels. Priced above those would be BBS, HRE, Forgeline ect.

NEVER buy wheels that need hubcentric ring. it's like wearing a condom with a hole on it. you WILL have problem.
BBS motorsport (not to be confused with BBS), CCW, JB, Forgeline are the only wheels i run.
very high end OZ are acceptable as well. but not the generic OZ.

+1...Mooty any experience with the OZ Allegerita HLT cast wheels that are sold as racing wheels? $1700 for a set at Tire Rack.
but if it's hubcentric then worth trying.
HOWEVER, remember that when you destroy a wheel you usually kill off one or two of them, not all four. i dont know how long the production cycle is for OZ. you dont want to end up with 2 wheels and can't buy the other two.
not saying OZ does that, but some others do.
I'm curious, how strong should a track wheel be rated?
As a BBS dealer, I know that not all BBS wheels are hubcentric for Porsches. Plus, the Forgestars do pretty well on the track.

Here's our customer's 996TT at Laguna Seca on Forgestar F14s:

Here's our other customer's 997 GT3 rippin' it at the track on Forgestar F14s:

That would really depend on the weight of the car in question, tire compound, driver skill, track conditions, etc. Even in light car like the GT3/RS, a seasoned driver with R-comps will most likely be pulling more 1G+. Not to mention berms, curbs, and not so nice run off. Also consider how long you want the wheel to last. While the initial investment for a forged wheel is expensive, consider the cost to replace a cast wheel or a track day cut short because of wheel failure.
This is not to badmouth Forgestar or any other cast wheel. Hit any wheel hard enough and it will bend or crack. However, I prefer to leave myself the biggest margin as possible.
Here's another question for the Vendors carrying Forgestars, or anyone else who may know: how does Forgestar manipulate the offsets of their wheels?

This might help? wheels that need hubcentric ring? http://www.prestigewheel.com/Catalog/HubRings66_67.pdf

This customer has taken his car to the track numerous times and went over the curbs at track speed. Safety and durability all depends on the load ratings of said wheel and the results of a few other tests.
These have been rated well over the typical JWL and VIA standards. The one thing that everyone has to remember is that: THERE ARE NO OTHER WHEELS ON THE MARKET THAT COMES CLOSE TO THE FORGESTAR'S SPECS AND WEIGHTS AT THE SAME PRICE POINT!
It's a good looking wheel, but I am pretty the Porsche crowd will be turned off by using hubcentric rings and different lug bolts. I for one only want wheels that will bolt right on. I guess that is the trade off on price as they can probably keep costs down by keeping the wheels more generic in the manufacturing process. I would say the OZ Allegritas are very competitive in terms of both price and strength to the Forgestars. Time will tell how both wheels hold up.
HUH??? Really? I must be special then, because I have PCCB's on my GT2 and the Alleggerita wheels are a PERFECT fit!!! I know of at least 5 people running them on their Cars here in the SF Bay area.. I have a set, my friend Frank with a Seal Gray GT2 also has them.. I have 16 track days on them and they have been perfect so far..

If I can get them up before Thursday, I will let you all know how they hold out as I will be running them for two consecutive track days...
That's great to hear. My OZ's will be arriving next week from Tire Rack and I am really hoping to use them the following weekend if I can find a way to send them to my track before the track day (unfortunately timing is darn tight). Cant wait to run them with the Hooters....

I think the OZ's are the best deal going out there for track wheels. As far as I'm concerned they're proven. I only had them for less than 2 years before I sold my car so I can't speak for long term durability. For the time I used them I have to say I'm impressed.
I recently pulled the trigger on some R888's in 19" and I'm throwing them on the stock wheels. I hardly drive my car other than the trip to the track or some short weekend jaunts to a car show or what not. It didn't make sense for me right now to get dedicated track wheels since I drive the car so little.
With that being said, when I can find a simple easy way to get wheels to the track, I'm going to buy some OZ's with Hoosiers as my dedicated track shoes.
