Thinking of switching from 08TT to 08GT3 RS

Have a modified 08TT. Love the car but like the feel of RWD better. This will be a DD through a lot of curving country roads. I have a back-up BMW X5 for bad weather. Tested an 08 GT3 RS and loved it. Obviously less low end torque but all the other Visceral sensations were amazing. Reminded me of my 89 911 Turbo (930) that I used as a DD and also did track events. This GT3 would probably have minimal track time but I loved the mechanical feel of the car compared to the somewhat sterilized TT.
Anyone made this switch and what does everyone think of this move.

^have you considered converting the car to rwd. Not saying it will be like driving a GT3RS because it won't, the cars are apples/oranges. However, it will make driving the TT more enjoyable and may fix your need for what you are looking for

Sold my '07 turbo a couple of years ago and got back into a 911 via a .2 gt3. I love the gt3 for all of the reasons you mention and more. You won't regret it.

if your turbo is stock, and you get the higher hp RS, then you will not feel much of a difference. However, after having driven a GT3 after driving my modded turbo, the GT3 feels anemic in a straight line and since I hardly track my cars and do mostly street, or highway, the handling difference does not outweigh the straight line performance difference. So if your turbo remained stock, you may not notice the performance difference and it may be worth it to you. if your turbo is tuned, you may not like how much slower the GT3 feels.

the biggest drawback to the turbo is it's crappy exhaust. Takes the fun out of the car. If you get an EP for it, you will have that aggressive sound in the engine and it may be all you need. Just keep in mind most differences are in your head and you will likely take it in the shorts on any trade with a dealer.

that is a lot of miles. very cool. Definitely a great car. In fact right off the bat, the GT3 is cheaper than a turbo for the same years, so knowing what you want first hand helps a lot.

I definitely suggest owner drive a real "well" modded turbo to see the difference. My turbo is way more thrilling than a GT3 on a day to day basis. But it is also more likely to get me in trouble

I'd take a GT3 in any variant or year over a Turbo any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

A few weeks ago I ago I was able to do a bit of comparison at Roebling. I have a Gt3.1 nicely setup by TopSpeed. I was able to drive the TopSpeed Gt2 1 Lap winner car and my fathers tuned 2008 997TT back to back with my car. First the TopSpeed car is black belt territory. Power released out of the corners is a real eye opener. For me to drive this car as hard as mine simply takes larger ones than I had the time to grow. My fathers car was tamer simply because the boost was more liner (still 482whp). Yes both made my 3 feel anemic on the long front straight. With that said however the 3 feels organic, like you wear it. With its current setup it is really rewarding to drive quickly. The 997TT was a good bit faster squirting from turn to turn but did not posses the poise need to carry the speed although I did not change my driving behavior to affect is 4wd. I am sure it can be hammered however I drove both cars as if they were the 3. The 3 is somehow smoother, extremely linear and flowing while the GT2, especially, is a brutal lesson in throttle management. Hard to beat horsepower though which can make up a bunch of time btwn those corners.

If I remained strictly on the street I would hop up a turbo and be very happy with it. However I am addicted to track days and the 3 is more rewarding and more intimate the the TT and with the sharkwerks bypass much better sounding. Ideally the GT3 with Sharkwerks 3.9 kit and JRZ's would be my ultimate choice.

makes good sense. The GT3 is a super track machine. I am so impressed with the GT3 that won the rwd record up pikes peak this year. No other RWD beat it.

Please elaborate. For the longest time my dream was to own a turbo. With the mods you can do to it these days, 650-700hp is easily attainable which would be clearly much more powerful than at gt3 or gt3rs.

For the past year, I have slowly started to switch my interest to the gt3 - mostly due to the following:

weight
redline
non-turbo

I would like to hear your first hand impressions on the comparison. Thanks

I ended up with an 08 GT2. Just picked it up today. Couldn't do without the Turbo power but loved the rear wheel drive feel and lightness of the GT3 and now the GT2 so I bit the bullet and went for the GT2. Reminds me of my 89 930 that I tracked and modified but with much more power and thankfully some electronic safety features but the feel of the lighter front end and quicker steering is amazing.
