GT2 RS Storm is Brewing
Wow, just looked at the PDF brochure and it really makes me want to get one. What an awesome ride and best of luck. I can't wait until we see some in the metal and carbon fiber. Wow, again.
I will be glad to get my car. I don't care if it is the same suspension or not, I probably cannot drive it to its potential anyway. I couldn't drive my GT2 to its potential but I still loved the car so I am sure the GT2RS will be just as satisfying. Thanks
After using my car a little on the Ring and on the GP track in Nurburg, I am very happy with the car. Ok, it has a higher price than my previous 2009 GT2, but, the car feels a lot more direct even with the standard setting than my old car did after the Manthey setup. (not to mention the power) So, you guys that is getting the car, be happy, you will for sure enjoy the it
It is a GREAT car!!! At least, I have driven both the 2009 GT2 and the GT2RS on track, and know a little bit about what I am talking about.. Most people have never even been inside of this car..

I think that a GT3RS with a twin turbo motor and some Carbon Fibre **** is actually what some of us porsche guys dream of. Calling it a GT2RS and selling it to us for 250k is a bargain in my opinion.
I don't see the big shock here. Porsche is in the business of making money. Porsche is like taco bell. They have a bunch of models, but all with the same basic ingredients (i.e. parts bin). Do you really think Porsche is going to develop new parts for a low production model like the 2-RS? Plus, Porsche loves to take 1 or 2 little upgrades from their racing program (i.e. the 2 different suspension parts vs. 3.RS) and exploit/exaggerate the benefit. The best are the Walter hot-lap videos that get the P-Fans frothing and drinking the kool-aid. No offense, but Walter's driving can polish any turd.
GT3 = Carrera S w/GT1 motor + less sound deadening + Better Aero and Wing.
GT3-RS = C4S less 4wd w/GT1 motor + less sound deadening + Better Aero and even better Wing + cheesy graphics stickers on outside.
GT2-RS = GT3-RS w/Turbos.
This is how Porsche makes money. They mix the ingredients, add a few other new parts to visually show difference in models. Each model is designed and marketed to a specific demographic. That is how you sell products.
Now, a Cup isn't 100% solid ball-joints. So I don't think it will make that much different. I do know that you are paying more for those suspension changes vs. if GMG or some shop did the upgrade. For some reason people think factory upgrades always offer more performance. Not true. At best, they are the same, but cost more.
And at the end of the day, the GT2-RS is a street car. No matter how hard core you think it is, it is still soft and designed to be driven on the street.
If you want a real race car. Get a cup (and for 2-Rs money, you can). I did. It's a huge eye opener. You will never look at street cars the same again. The leap from street car to race car is so large that unless you've owned or driven one, you will always fall for Porsche's marketing.
But if you want a dual purpose car, save your money. Get a GT3-RS, add ball-joints, cup sways and better dampers. Add the safety + a set of spare wheels with slicks and you're done. All for way less than a .2 GT2-RS.
IMO, the GT2-RS improved on the GT3-RS' ring time on pure HP difference, not better handling.

...and if what you are stating is true, it wouldn't explain these findings on the North Loop:
I guess we'll see.

For $265K+Tax 2-RS is a deal when comparing to CGT. 2-RS is faster. But when comparing value of 2-RS to a used mk.2 GT3-RS + all racing goodies, it is NOT a deal. All depends on if the glass is half empty or half full. Plus, also depends on the purpose of the car. Everyone has their own reasons for getting their own type of Porsche. There is no one choice for all. Let's just be happy they offer a product for each and every type of enthusiast.

GT2 is mk1. RS is mk2. Wider front track and wheels/tires offer better turn in. Improved linear power delivery of turbos makes smoother power out of turns. Also, possibly out-of-box has better set up from factory. I am not saying the RS is not an improvement over the mk1 GT2. It is. I am saying a mk2 GT2-RS is simply a mk2 GT3-RS with Turbos and some extra carbon fiber. And the difference in mk2 3-RS vs 2-RS at the Ring is simply HP, not handling.

My comment about the velocity differences in the various turns in Nordschleife was to continue the theme that there are more similarities between the GT2RS and its brethren than what is being advertised. In watching Andreas Preuninger's interview about the special components in the GT2 RS, I hear him make statements that I think will ultimately prove false.
More on topic...
Best case it has the same ball joints vs. rubber as a Cup. Here are the Cup's rear suspension details:
"Multilink rear suspension with solidly mounted subframe
Suspension struts height-adjustable
Modified wheel suspension
Double coil springs with race setup (main spring and helper spring)
Sachs gas pressure shock absorbers
Modified axle side parts
Two-piece lower control arms for camber adjustment
Unibal - suspended control arm (top)
Longitudinal control arm
Double-blade-type anti-roll bar, seven setting options per side
Reinforced, continuously variable rear axle track rod"
Take out the Sachs dampers and that may be your 2-RS setup. Any idea on the Sways? Tubed or Double blade?
RSR vs. new 2010+ cups are more similar vs. 06-09 cups. Given the claims in the video, this seems to be what is in their. Cups are super stiff from the factory. But with softer springs, it's a very compliant ride. And that is probably what the 2-Rs has. If the GT2-RS has full-Cup suspension (less Sachs dampers), that would be insane. I hope that's the case. And that is what the claims in the video imply.
Op should not worry. He's getting the gnarliest street-going 911 ever made! And when talking big boy toys, is price really an issue? So long as value is there no. And regardless of what is cheaper, etc., the GT2-RS outperforms pretty much all street cars. So given that, it's a steal. I feel sorry for the Lambo and F-car guys. haha.

I would be glad to do so, but the car is parked in Germany..
