The info I posted comes straight from the CGT technical info booklet. So it's probably not completely wrong...
I don't have it here right now, but I'll try to scan it one of these days.

I've found that the best driveways to approach are those that are essentially flat with the street (obviously). Those at steep angles requiring more of an angled approach (at slow speed).

My last car was a 996 TT with aero kit. It scrapped more than the CGT on my driveway. Angle of approach is key.

I'm reconfiguring my driveway to have a more flared apron; thereby allowing an almost 75 -90 degree approach.

Your landscape person should be able to figure it out though and give best esthetic and functional option.

Hope this helps.

Appreciate the insight -- the major problem is that my land slopes and the driveway is below grade so I have precious little choice --

Having said that, my landscape architect is working to provide a less severe slope around the edge - Should be interesting

same here with the sloped land and driveway below grade and then there's proper drainage for which there is only choice of design (and it's new stamped and colored concrete).

I am also considering stamped, and colored concrete -- do you have any shots of it close and wide for me - also, any issues with cracking?

No issues with cracking - yet. Here are the only pictures I have and the driveway is dirty in them:

Ok, this picture isn't as gorgeous as Ben's ones, but it's from the 'Technik Kompendium, Carrera GT'.

The 'impressum' says 'confidential'... ;-) Oh, it's dated January 2003.

Greetings,

A stock 996 allow for 13 degrees. Measure the overhang of the front of the car from the wheel's center and then the nose height and you can easily determine the exact degree that is safe. It's probably close ro 6 - 8 degrees.
