I bought the one that has pre-cut holes from Sun Coast Parts. It didn't fit right, as shown in the original pics.

I then resorted to just cutting the original solid piece.

If I had to do it over, I wouldn't have bought anything, would have made templates, and just cut the original up, moving VERY slowly. Cost is around $328 for a replacement (Part #28 - http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p...-08/807-05.php), which is a lot.

The hardest part was figuring out how to install the big piece... meaning, install it angled forward, mount the bottom and then roll it to the rear (as shown in the WC video on their site) OR install it angled backwards and then slide the bottom into place.

I tried backwards, had a bunch of WTF's, and then tried angled forward, and that definitely didn't work, so I went back to the angled backwards and patiently worked it into place. Just make sure to take the seatbelt covers off the b-pillar. You can leave the seat belt mount in place, the bar will make it past those. Keep everything covered with the pads and take your time.

Keep the back portion that is connected to the strut towers completely lose you can angle it out of the way while you position the large part.

Take your time.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the clarification. I have a search out for finding someone who has made the installation of a rollbar/harness bar and wants to sell their stock rear cover/carpet piece. If no one turns up, I will do as you say and modify the stock cover.

mikemdd,

keep in mind that roll bars seldom line up perfectly. The GMG does a almost perfect job, but you have to keep in mind they designed this based on their car. yours most likely is not the the same production vintage, and jigs tend to drift a bit over time. you may have to do a little sanding / filing to get the bar joints to slip together. clamps may be required and a little pushing and pulling is definitely required. Never try and pull the cage together with the bolts alone. Rubber padded quick clamps are also helpful if needed. As was said above leave everything as lose as possible.

My install was better part of a day. Once the bar was in everyone took a break before doing the carpet.

Thanks. As clarification, I installed a harness bar rather than a roll bar, so the cutting of the carpet is a little different. However, the same overall problem for covering the bare shelf. Looks like you did a great job in the end for finishing the cosmetic carpet issue.

When I installed my GMG WC bar I used motorcycle tie downs to pull the bars together that need to be closer and and a couple of pieces of wood with rubber on the roll bar side and a wedge to move the bars apart where I needed extra space.

See Post #23 below: Don't do the following! I also had to modify, 5 lb. short handle sledge, the boxed section just behind the front seat belt mounts. With the bar rotated in front legs first I couldn't rotate the bar back after attaching those bolts. It didn't take a lot of persuasion but it did take some.

The point about no two cars being the same is well made. Take your time and don't get frustrated. It will go in.

Now I just need to purchase the rear sections for the shock towers and turn the bar into a 6 point.

BTW, this bar does not obstruct the rear view at all. You hardly know it's in the car.

Under the carpet are two plastic boxed sections by the seat belt mounts. Passenger side is cosmetic. The drivers side has a wire harness that looks expensive. in my install the plastic was notched and then the carpet relaid over the top. This allowed the main hoop of the bar to be swung back into place. If folks need I will take some pics and post

Is it true that people with the Bose subwoofer ports/outlets will not be able to install this rollbar? I was told it get's in the way of the rollbar.

If you have a Bose box we recommend the World Challenge bar.

This mounts to the seat belt anchors in the rear and does not obstruct or come in contact with the Bose box.

E-

In retrospect anything you would have done differently with your install? Any problems arise since, squeaks, etc? I should receive mine this week. I have a friend helping me who intstalled his in his grey/red rs.

Thanks

Ben

Nothing different at all, Ben. The top part is easy to put in place and just leave it loose. Take your time getting the bottom one in place. It will go in.

And take your time and take good measurements for the back carpeting. Don't purchase the pre-cut. Just cut the original. If you ever remove the bar, then you can buy a replacement piece.

No sqeaks at all. I'm very pleased with it.

I look forward to seeing it!

Looks great!

Do you know the diameter and thickness of the steel? And the type of steel used? Also, are there inspection holes in the bars? Thanks!
