enough is enough already.....
I agree with you but......
most enthusiast were in an uproar over the production of the Cayenne, and then again with the Panamera, and even a little with the lower priced cars like Boxster. The result was they made most of their sales on those models that we were in an uproar over. Thus I dont think they care about what we approve of or not. If anything, whatever enthusiast complain about, porsche makes more money from. There are probably a lot more non-enthusiast that are buying porsches now, enthusiast are just more vocal.

basically, the 911 GTX models are the reposne from porsche to enthusasisast (rwd, real manual,loud,raw,e.t.c)...the rest of the models are in tune to satisfy the masses. kinda sad bc they have panemera, caynne e.t.c to satisfy that niche...they did'nt need to mess with the 911 lineup soo bad that even us enthusiasts cant keep up with all the changes!
While everyone is *****ing, the 991 variant gets shown at the LA auto show first of next year. Or late this year. Don't know when the show happens. Was going to be Rennsport, but they couldn't make the timeline.
I have a deposit on this car but it's a RSR!! 4.00001 liter hybrid.
Agree but....
If the dollar keeps sliding valuesn like an commodity will inflate as new car prices will continue to rise. My dealers are saying Porsche will ship less units to US now and/or increase prices for 2012 more than anticipated due to weaker dollar. Now I have to laugh a little because the dollar has lost 40% since 1996. So not like this happened overnight the way the press and goldbugs want everyone to believe.......

If Porsche is going to have such a large number of variants, at least they are in the 911 family and not the Boxster/Cayman. That would have a much greater negative impact to the brand than the 911 variants. I know: Black Edition(s), Spyder, R are variants, but imagine the *****ing if we saw 20 or so total variants of the 987 platform...
Porsche is demonstrating that the 911 is still the core of the brand and they're doing what they need to to get everything out of it. While it is an excessive number of variants, it does give options to a wide range of enthusiasts. I love my GTS, it's basically how I would WANT to spec a 911 but wouldn't be able to without the GTS model being available. I'm sure there are some people in the northern climates that are thrilled at the AWD GTS as they wanted a GTS to begin with, but really need AWD. While the next buyer may want a sporty cabrio (C2Cab), and the next a hard-core track car (GT3 RS) and the next a nasty fast DD (TurboS). If you haven't noticed, the GT3 and GT3RS are no longer available...so the current total number of variants is remaining relatively stable.
So who cares about the number of variants. If depreciation is the only concern, then don't trade, don't get all of those expensive options, or don't get the first of the model type to hit the dealer.
I have no idea whether I'll trade for a 991 in a couple of years. Hopefully I won't want to. But IF I do, I'm not going to try to buy early or get carbon-everything with PTS, etc. But that's just me...my budget is a little tighter than many others on here.

hahahaha this thread is funny
...bumpo to the top to keep the ball rollin'
I agree...too many 911 varients... I was talking to a few friends the other day and thry didn't know the specifics on the 911's there are just so many..., I think the masses see the shape and lump all Porsches into the same catagory... the classic one (911), the soccer mom one (Cayanne) and the ugly one (Panamera)

I hope you are right, at least about the 996!
